Has anyone completed their shoe boxes yet? Ds just bought the brochure home. We usually do about 4. We do 1 from each ds and 1 for a girl. O.K. with the 3 ds its fun for me to shop for some girly stuff. They dont want any part of that for sure. I have some stuff like pens, pencils, cars etc. but it looks like I will definetely be hitting the dollar tree this week end. Our deadline is like nov. 15th or 17th I think.

We turned ours in two weeks ago. We do a box per child, for the age and gender of each of our children. I LOVE this project, because it's a Christmas project that can be done in October!

I buy stuff all year. Target usually puts each batch of the Dollar Spot stuff half price. Last year we got some super soft little plushies there for 50 cents each. After Christmas, they had their "stocking stuffer" toys half price...things like Slinkies, Silly Putty, Polly Pocket, Matchbox cars, etc. Those kind of things are great for the shoe boxes. And of course, I buy markers and stuff when the stores clearance the school supplies. I just keep a big shopping bag in my closet and add to it all year.

Operation Christmas Child is a function of Samaritan's Purse, the mission organization run by Franklin Graham, Billiy Graham's son. You fill a shoe box with toys, socks, school supplies, etc for either a boy or girl and they ship the decorated boxes to places where kids don't get Christmas. Sometimes it's here in the U.S.;sometimes it's overseas. The organization goes into the community and puts on a big party for the families and distributes the gifts.

We do this every year. Each of my children does a box. This year, we will do two boxes, one for a 12yo girl and one for a 10yo boy. I collect small toys and school items all through the year to put in these boxes. We set aside extra money for charity at Christmas so that we can do this. My DD12 just loves shopping for "her" girl. Just about anything goes(except war toys and chocolate) and she crams it all into her box. We take them to church, where they are sent to the distribution warehouse. The adults in my church also work one weekend at teh warehouse, checking the boxes for "contraband" (drugs, liquids, candy, weapons,etc)

Instead of a shoe box, consider buying a shoe-boxed size plastic container with a lid. That is something the kids can use as well.

Our church does this as well. I try to do 1 in each age group. I put in crayons, paper, hair ribbons, small toys, candy (no chocolate as it can melt)
silly putty or small play doh cans,miniature dolls for girls or Hot wheels for a boy,socks,lip gloss,costume jewelry,those T shirts that are shrink wrapped real small, (WDW as well as Target sells these)
You would be surprised at just how much stuff will fit in these boxes!

Our ladies group at my church just finished a "packing party". We start collecting boxes & items to pack in August. Then, in Oct. we have a party & invite everyone in the church to the party (we're a pretty small church). We have Christmas music, snacks, & pack boxes & pray for the kids that will receive the boxes. We're sending 92 this year. They're packed & ready to go!

Sounds great I am going to suggest this as a project to my DDs school. Just emailed her teacher about it.
