Opening DLR (spin off)

Someone mentined being picked for opening DLR in the morning, I have never heard of this before. Can someone please explain this to me, it sounds cool.

Oh, I am dying to know how people mangage this too. I can tell you what I witnessed last year.

I had gotten my family up and out of PPH and to the security check about 45 minutes before opening. We were 3rd in line, and as soon as they opened the checkpoint we skidaddled over to the gates. One lady with a babe on her hip came speed walking past us, yelling out, "Sorry, I have a reason."

Well, about 15 minutes later, there was an announcement that the "blank" family would be opening the park and give them a hand. I looked over and it was the lady with the baby and she actually had about 15 people in her party. She had gotten to the gate quickly and apparently asked for this honour.

I understand they tend to choose large families (your family would qualify!) and oftentimes those with matching shirts or outfits, etc.

The family get's a button, get's to enter the gates early, makes a pronouncement, and signs the guest book.

That is all I know about it. I thought it was really cool, and when I got the gleam in my eye and started to comment on how fun that would be, my hubby assured me that he would not be interested in doing that under any circumstances. Whatever!!

I think they choose a couple of families, the last time we were there for the breakfast at 7 am, there was a couple with two small children that were chosen and a huge family was also chosen. . the couple had gotten there at 630 am, and were about the only ones there from what the husband told me. . .

When we were at disneyland we were second to arrive at the gate, the first family there were chosen to open disneyland.

Good to know! I've always wondered about that but didn't think they would choose someone solo to do it.

We were chosen on our last trip. We were the first ones there from the Harbor side. It would appear that there is a family from the Harbor side and one from the resort side since we shared the opening with another family who came from the other direction.

We got to sign the book - kind of a guest book for people who open the park - and got to go inside first. From inside of the gate we counted down and opened the park. We also got Citizens of Disneyland buttons.

It was very exciting and worth getting up for. We'll probably be first in line again this year - I'm too excited to sleep kind of thing - but will yield to someone else so they will have a chance.
