Opening Day Booking or Placeholder rate???

Hi everyone! newbie question for you. whats better? Book a cruise on opening day prices or use the placeholder discount? I'm so confused and tried looking at threads but no direct hits. Please advise???????

If you have a placeholder, you can use that to book on opening day. Therefore applying the discount to the opening day prices.

A placeholder has a unique reservation or confirmation # within DCL's system. So if you have one, you will want to call in on opening day so that DCL can convert it from being a placeholder into an actual reservation with an actual itinerary.

If, however, you don't have one yet but are taking a cruise soon on which you hope to buy a placeholder, the general consensus is that you should still book on opening day, then take the cruise and talk to the future cruise booking staff on board to basically re-shop your reservation (made on opening day) to see if booking on board provides a better price.

If you don't have a placeholder, but are cruising soon and plan to have a placeholder, then you can book your cruise on opening day (because that's when it's cheapest) and then, when you sail, see if the prices are still the same. If so, reshop the second cruise by cancelling the opening day cruise and booking on the ship. If the prices have risen and your opening day price is the better one (quite often), then you just buy a placeholder for the future 3rd cruise.
