Opening Ceremony at Magic Kingdom Question

When we were there last (11/04) it went like this:

Mayor of Main Street and some Main Street dancers came out and sang and danced for a bit (up on tMS train platform). Then the mayor said Mickey and friends would be arriving on the train soon, along with the family chosen to offcially open the park for the day. Soon after, you hear the train whistle and Mickey and co. arrive. There is a countdown and the the gates open. All in all a great way to start the day! We have most of this on video and we like to relive the moment sometimes.

I assume you mean outside the front gate prior to opening. If so, the mayor will come out and welcome everyone and they sing a couple of songs, the characters ride in on the train with the family that was chosen to open the park. Then they count down, throw confetti and they open the gates. Nice and sweet.

If the park opens at 9am, what time would you need to be at the front gates to see this?

Thanks in advance.

I think it starts about 10 minutes till opening time, but remember to allow time to get through security and the gates, and of course to get there.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on the time.

In 6/04 our bus from POR arrived just before 8:30. We were very close, we stayed to the extreme left as we got in line so that we could see better. We got covered in confetti/streamers and it was alot of fun. My DS3 LOVED it!!!! There were perhaps a few busloads of people already there in front of us, so a little earlier could get you right up front!
I think I read somewhere that this only happens when it's a non EMH opening, someone correct me if I am wrong.
We didn't see the family get picked but (this is pure speculation on my part) if you were to be up front OR to the extreme right in line you'd stand a better chance of getting picked as the CM's could get to you easier. Standing to the extreme left leaves you up against the flower beds BUT gives you a great view!
For those of you going think of me while watching will ya? I don't even have a trip in the works right now......

I am under the impression that it only happens on non EMH mornings too BUT I did read that next week it will be at 6:55 each morning when the park is opening only to onsite guests from 7-8 then then the rest of the public.

I also read that it only happens on Non-EMH days. We LOVE to see this show!! It makes me cry everytime I see it (we have it on video). It is definitely a must-do atleast once IMO. ::yes:: So MAGICAL!! I can't remember how early we got there to see it, we watched it from the very front/middle, my ds's sat on the ledge in front of the big Mickey head. Just get there early! LOL

I've never seen this show either. I expect to see it for the first time this year, since we have a 8:05 reservation at Crystal Palace on a day the park opens at 9:00. Hopefully we'll be out of the restaurant in time for the show.

I did look it up and listed on Steve Soares Live Entertainment site - it has the opening being held every morning next week for early entry at 6:55 so I am hoping to catch it!
