I have never been on a cruise before & was wondering. If any of my kids snacks are in open containers, will I be allowed to bring them off the ship?

I know when you board, your not allowed to bring open containers and I know during debarkation you can not have open alcohol or fruit, but can I remove any open regular snack type foods (cookies, crackers, chips..etc.)?

I know this is a strange question, but I don't want to attempt to remove something I'm not supposed to a get in trouble  !

Thanks for the help!
;) :D ,
Katie

When I asked this question on my cruise a couple of weeks ago, I was told no open food packages would be allowed. Even an open bag of chips wasn't allowed.

Hmmmm....the only thing we've encountered in 10 Magic cruises are the US Customs regs of no fruit. Processed foods can be taken off (bags of cookies, etc.) DD took off some open cookies with no problems.

Where did you get the idea that you can't bring ON open containers at boarding? Again, we've never been "not allowed" to bring anything...including bagels purchased at the little coffee shop in the terminal.

I'd suggest following the written rules from DCL rather than anything you've heard on line or whatever.

From the Terms and Conditions of the DCL Brochure (bottom of page 65 in the brochure I have):

"PERISHABLES:
Coolers are not permitted except for medications, baby food, or items related to dietary constraints. Coolers containing personal items (e.g. soda or snacks) may NOT be brought on board. Homemade, pre-cooked or other perishable items plus any open snack containers will not be allowed to be brought on board. We regret that we are unable to provide food preparation, refrigeration or storage onboard for personal food or beverage items."

The disembarkation talk made it quite clear that you could not take off 'food items" and specifically mentioned that you could not run up to Topsiders and prepare a snack to carry off "for the road" for after disembarking.

Processed, packaged food is another story (although I believe if opened it may be prohibited. The unopened rum cakes were fine. We waivered on the uneaten, but unopened pillow chocolates, but in the end we defined them as "necessities" not "food." :)

Opened, but unfinished bottles of alcohol are also not officially permitted, although I highly suspect they get packed in luggage!
