oooooooooooh, I just HATE bad manners--Venting!!

Oh this is one of my biggest pet peeves. I am answering the help desk line at work today, and my building is having all kinds of issues. We are running off the generators, and about half the building is still down. I understand folks are frustrated, but whatever happened to 'Please' and 'Thank You'.

I just fielded a call that started with me answering the phone:

"Good afternoon, MIS, This is Debbie speaking"

the other caller:

"I need you to terminate a print job that is tying up my printer, RIGHT NOW".

Ummm, hello, excuse me??????? I NEED to?

I think because I am trying so hard to make sure that my DS has nice manners, this just makes me nuts!

I completely understand. I'm trying to teach my kids good manners too, but sometimes the real world can make me wonder why??? And then I realize because I don't want my kids to grow up and be those kind of people. {{HUGS}}

Maybe you should take it upon yourself to teach them like you do Ian...... "What do you say??" "What's the magic word" :teeth: Treat them like a child.... I have a friend who gets irritated at Halloween when the kids don't say "thank you".... some of them don't even say "trick or treat"..... they just open their bags expecting something. She always yells "YOU'RE WELCOME" as they walk away. Good for you Debster for teaching Ian manners - people do notice!!

Time to go home and relax. Put your feet up, make a cocktail and take it easy for the evening.

this is one of my big pet peeves too. i try to teach my DS manners but when he is polite and the other ADULT is rude to him...what am I to do??? he holds doors open for ANY female and anyone older. rarely does he get so much as a thank you!!!! these are common courtesy things and everyone should say thank you!!

I hear you loud and clear. I normally speak with customers and they can be rude and often outright nasty. It's especially frustrating when they're your co-workers. When I call another department, especially witha problem, I try to be polite and never accusatory because the person who answers my call isn't the reason for the problem.

I think these people are the ones who never listened to anything the teacher said in Kindergarten. "Please", "Thank You" and "You're Welcome" should be second nature. I hope your day gets better.

I just got yelled at again! By the same woman. *sheesh*

I did wish her a Happy New Year, and I don't think it was laced with too much sarcasm.
