Oohhh Nnnooooo!!!!

Ok this is my first trip.... (as i have said many many times) i have never planned a trip like this ever..... and we leave in 4 days..... but dd 9 yr old came down with the flu last night at 3:00 am..... it already went through my brothers family!!! I really hope dd 15 and dh dont get it!!!! i was reading posts here the other day about the flu and leaving for florida in a few days and told my dh im glad thats not going to happen to us..... well........ im taking extra vitamins and so is my dd 15 ...... i keep saying its the 24 hour flu!! thanks for listening.... vicki

Boy does that sound familiar. My DD9 has always scheduled her illnesses around holidays and road trips. We spent 3 hours at an Urgent Care the day after Christmas this past year. ho, ho, ho

Can you take that airline flu/cold medicine thing? Geesh - I can't remember the name, but it's supposed to help keep germs from affecting you. Anyone?

Does she actually have the flu (Upper respiratory-cough-fever-chills) or the stomach bug that's going around (vomiting/diarrhea/abdominal pain)?

If it's the former you may be in trouble.
If it's the latter, the good news is it usually lasts only 24-48 hours. We all had it last week at WDW, all on different days, of course.

The name of the medicine you are talking about is Airborne, but I believe it is only for colds.

I swear by this anti-cold stradegy. Not sure it will work on the flu and I'm not sure about giving it to the kids as I have never given it to my own and as long as you don't have any allergies (thats all my disclaimers). At the first hint of a cold I take 1 b-complex w/folic acid and 1 zinc tablet twice a day. Morning and night. I have been doing this for 2 years and (knock wood) have never been knocked down with a cold. I read this in a magazine a couple of years ago and I swear I have not had a cold in 2 years. Zinc is an active ingredient in those cold away and airbourne things they sell. This is a lot cheaper and easier. I know I just jinxed myself but I don't want to see your vacation ruined!

yep shes got the stomach thing..... but she did have a fever with it also but the fever broke.... i hope it will only last 24 hours...... thanks for the info all..... vicki

Make sure that she is taking in enough fluids, it is very easy with a stomach bug to become dehadrated. I would be using alot of lysol to help kill germs. Most of the time the stomach bug runs its course, but I have known of it to run it more than once on person.

I am so sorry this has happened to you.

In January, DS7 came down with pneumonia 2 weeks before our 8 day trip to Disney. When he finally got better, I didn't want to let him out of the house because I feared he would have a relapse & we'd have to cancel our trip!!

oh i'm so sorry to hear! hopefully it is the 24 hour flu. you're not flying, are you? i know sometimes the flights get weird if people are sick(considering you're all breating in the same air for a few hours). hope he gets better!

It's all going to be OK. She'll be fine keep her liquids going. Just think about how much fun you will all have. I envy you going for the first time. My first time was my honeymoon. I was so over whelmed that my husband thought I was disappointed. I felt so bad. When you get back let us know how it all went.

good news ...... she is keeping fluids down and she even ate mac-n-cheese today...... i think she is feeling much better.... now i hope the rest of us dont get it........ and yes we are flying that is also for the first time...... lot of first's for us..... i am so excited thanks for all the thoughts.... vicki
