To (hopefully) keep things simple I'll do this in one thread. Just to remind you:
The Players:
Me, 21 (twice, plus one for luck
if you can't work it out stick with 21 and make me happy
), overweight and middleaged on the outside, dresses in princess gowns and sparkly accessories on the inside
DH - 41 (but still not used to 40), responsible for getting me hooked on Disney so has to suffer the consequences despite not "getting" it in the same way
DS(14) - "Treat me like an adult" - well, we have to pay adult prices, but he's not getting any beer! Likes rides, cowboys and guns, embarassed by his parents (especially me )
DS(8) - Loves Disney, still thinks his mum is beautiful and wants me to wear a princess dress to match my tiara
G'ma - my mum, 68 but mind hasn't quite caught up with that yet
If you want the full back-story see the pre-trip report.
DAY 1
At the horrible time of 4.15am we got up to a snowy morning. Picked G'ma up at 5.05, persuaded her she had shut the door properly
by 5.15 and set off for Le Shuttle. Although the roads were clear, the fields each side fo the A20 were thick with snow
. Still, we reached the terminal at 6.10 - a clear 10 mins to spare before check-in closed - just time for a visit to the restrooms before joining the queue for the shuttle.
On the upper deck - I think for the first time! On the other side of la Manche
was even more snow. The hard shoulder had a good 2" of dirty slush, and although the sky was clear, with a bright sun, there was no sign of the snow melting. It was like something off Ski Sunday
As we got deeper into France the sky grew cloudier and the snow covering thinner - but it was still bitterly cold.
We started off following the RAC route, but once it abandoned us in the middle of the countryside we wroked back to the motorway (via Charles de Gaulle airport
) and followed the Disney route which took us straight there. I put on my famous tiara as we approached the Disneyland Hotel: much to the embarassment of DH and DS(14) cast members from then on curtseyes or said "Good morning princess"
DS(8) thought it was no more than my due
Left the cases with the Bell Hop, checked in andwent to buy our park tickets (TIP: if you are a shareholder you get a better price buying the tickets at the door than in advance when booking the hotel). By 12.30 we were on our way to Disney Studios.
First stop - Cinemagique (which had been remixed since our last visit). Came out just in time for Moteurs - Action doors opening for the 13.15 showing. But that 1/2 hour waiting for the start was really cold - those seats are NOT cosy
From there Studio Tram tour (a walk-on), flying carpets (another walk-on) and a quick look in the shops - DS(8) making his first purchase of the holiday! - before heading back to DLH to look at our rooms. We had ajoining rooms, so G'ma took the King bed and the rest of us had the two Queens (the room was slightly bigger). It was very tasteful - perhaps a bit too understated! - with pale pink and green everywhere. there was a fiezeof clasic Disney movies (Jungle Book, Lady & the Tramp etc.) round the top of the wall in both bedroom and bathroom, with a marquetry castle on the heads of the beds, fairies (pink silhouettes) on the bedcovers, a marquetry panel depicting Peter Pan and the pirate ship on the armoire, a mirror with Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs in the bathroom. Oh, and dancing hippos from Fantasia on the tiles over the bath - not very comforting to look at when you don't fit under the bubbles!
we unpacked quickly and went off to Walts in Disneyland Park for dinner. The joy of being in DLH is you don't need to keep going through bag check - well worth the extra!
We were shown to a brilliant table overlooking Main Street, just in time to choose our food before the parade started coming past and I had to keep going over to the window next to our table to take pictures (because I could get closer that way - for viewing purposes our table was perfect!)
I had marinated salmon (yummy!) followed by beef and seasonal veg (yummy!) and finished with apple crumble with salted butterscotch icecream (oooooooooh
) Sorry - no pictures of the meal as it got eaten too fast! (We didn't have lunch, just some sandwiches en route, so we were starving!) From Walts we walked to Fantasyland and ticked off Pinnochio, Dumbo (short wait), IASW (walk-on) plus a lengthy tour of the labyrinth in light rain/snow. By the time we found our way out there was already a big crowd for Candleabration, it was very cold and we were very tired so we headed back to the hotel via the gift shop (where I bought some postcards and planned future purchases
) then back to the rooms to play with the toiletries and early to bed - all lights out by 9.45
