Only want Mansion Section of POR - do you get it?

I'll be taking my parents next year and my Mom has her heart set on staying in one of the Mansions (preferably Magnolia, I think). I've read a few posts where people have requested the Mansions but were put in the AB section. She absolutely DOES NOT want to stay in those rooms (looks too much like how she grew up.)

Is there any way to request that you REALLY want to stay in one of the Mansions and if not, will need to pick somewhere else?

I realize and understand that in the scheme of things, this doesn't matter a hoot - we'll still have fun. It's only because my parents have never spent any $$$ on having fun or taking trips. Since things have financially eased up on me a bit, I'm so gratelful to be able to show them a good time. This is the only thing my Mom specifically requested after she read & looked at some of the pictures of all the resorts.

Just asking if anyone else has any clues.

When we went I specifically requested the Mansions because I didn't want to be in AB. I wanted to stay in those gorgeous mansions! We ended up in AB anyway. We were offered a move to the Mansions after our first night but by then we were settled in, liked the landscaping and privacy, not to mention proximity to our car, at AB, so we just stayed where we were. Thus, I doubt there are any guarantees you'll get the Mansions, but you would probably have the chance to move at some time in your stay.

You could consider the New Orleans-style part of POR (not sure what it's called these days) as it doesn't have a "backwoods" section. Also, the resort itself is smaller and more manageable and very pretty, prettier when you get there than in the pictures. It's very romantic.

Another thought is the Swan/Dolphin. At some times of the year, you can get great rates like $139 per night. Even though it may not necessarily seem like it from pictures, they are a huge step up in luxury from POR for not much more money. While they are perhaps not as unique as the Mansions, it's impossible not to love it there. The setting is beautiful. Swan/Dolphin share a lovely pool area with waterfalls, etc. And the area can't be beat -- walking distance/boat transport to Epcot and MGM as well as some of the best restaurants in Disneyworld. By contrast, POR has one sit-down restaurant and two food courts and you must take the bus to get anywhere (other than DownTown Disney, which is by boat). Just a thought.

We requested mansions twice and got AB both times. The next time, we didn't request anything and got mansions.

Now see, I requested AB section, and they were going to give us the Mansions. I think that because we were a couple, they thought we would like the Mansions. I asked if they would search out the AB section for a room and there were many left, so we were able to get one.

I think requesting is ok, but make sure when you get there ask upfront so they can look for a room that you would like.

Both sections are beautiful. I would definitely give it a try, the CM's go well out of their way to make you happy.

We requested Magnolia Terrace Mansion and got just that!

I stayed there once and requested Magnolia Terrace and got it.

Weren't some of the mansion buildings closed for renovations? That should be over by next year.

When we checked in the CM asked if we wanted AB or Mansions. We asked for mansions and we were assigned the Magnolia Bldg. Absolutely beautiful! You can also fax your preference in 4 days in advance of your stay. Ditections on how to do this and all fax numbers are listed at allearsnet.com

When we stayed there, we requested mansions (it was just DH and me) and we were put in AB. They said that we could switch after 2 nights, but by then we were too settled in and decided not to switch. We ended up enjoying the AB location because we were close to the food court and bus stop.

we requested the mansions and they gave us ab in april , but they were working on some of the mansions so I guess that is why.

I was really disappointed! I wanted to see those beautiful mansions!

we have stayed at POR seven times and we always request the mansions and have always gotten them.

I think it might depend on when you're going.

Although you are NEVER guaranteed anything, if there's more availability (ie - fewer people) then chances are you'd get the mansions.

If you don't mind, book the French Quarter! The rooms are lovely, and the resort is quaintly small. We were WAY on the edge at building 7, and nothing was an extreme walk. It was all nice and close. It's also freshly rehabbed.
