Only teen on DCL trip

Our son is 16 and will be the only teenager on our cruise, he makes friends pretty easily - is it safe to assume he'll have a great time on our cruise even though he won't know anyone. Does anyone have any comments regarding Vibe?

Will he be the only teenager in your group? I cant imagine that he will be the only teenager on the entire ship. If he makes friends easily and is looking to enjoy himself (versus the oh you must entertain me type) he will have a blast. My 16 yr old nephew joined us during a cruise and we barely saw him. Made him join us for dinner because once he received his Vibe card and schedule he was off. He hung out at Vibe ALOT, went to the movies a few times with a group of teens, participated in the teen excursion on Castaway - we never once saw him after dropping him off-, and participated in the scavenger hunts.. He's 18 now and is still loving DCL.

Our daughters (now both over 18) never had a problem making friends on the ships - he'll have a blast!

My daughter was in Edge, but assuming they do Vibe the same way, go to the start of the cruise activities. They do a lot of teambuilding/get to know each other stuff and DD quickly made friends. She still has friends she texts that she met on the cruise.

If he makes friends easily, I wouldn't worry about it. He'll likely make a ton of friends in the Vibe and you'll barely see him. You could join your cruise meet group and see if there are any other teens that want to communicate prior to the cruise.

I'm a bit more at ease now, thank you everyone! He will be the only teen in our group but from reading through the replies I think he'll be just fine! Whew....

Make sure he goes to the icebreaker event on the first night. That is the big key to getting involved and meeting people. Like others, we never saw our teenagers, except for at meal times and at 1 AM when they got back to the room and ordered room service.

you might have a hard time getting him out of Vibe if he's social.

Our 18 son wishes he can still get into Vibe, he loved it on previous cruises and sure missed it on our last one. I agree make sure yours goes on the first night.

Once you turn him loose everything will be just fine.

If not, have him checked for a pulse and brain activity.

I was worried about our 14 year old son - he's an only child, and I hoped he would have a nice time. He went to Vibe the first night, and we practically needed a crowbar to get him out of Vibe the rest of the trip! He can't wait to go on another cruise (neither can I!).

I joined our cruise meet thread before our cruise in March. A couple others had kids the same age so we exchanged their contact info. My DD 13 communicated a bit before hand so they weren't strangers and that really helped. She hit it off so well with the one girl (and we met and liked the family) that although they live in Canada and us in Iowa we are meeting up with them when we go to Niagara Falls next month AND they are going on the same cruise next year too! The girls text all the time!

She did meet a bunch of other friends too!

My son is always the only teen and LOVES DCL. He basically eats with us and sleeps in the stateroom because the rest of the time is spent in the club.

My daughter used to have problems socializing until DCL. It opened her up so much. She is 14 and did Vibe this year and loved it. If he is social he is going to have a blast, if he is not he will still have a blast. Say good bye to him when you get on the ship because you might not see him much for the next week.
