we decided to have a litlle weekend getaway for our 5 year anniversary. we are staying at Wilderness lodge for the first time (first deluxe for us!) but it is too hot for the parks with our baby plus our big trip will be this december. however, our 4 1/2 year old son will be smart enough to figure out we are in disney so i'm afraid that he might be wanting to go to the magic kingdom the whole time we are there wanting to just relax swim and explore the Lodge..maybe resort hop . has anyone ever done resort trip only? do you all think my son will be happy enough to be at wilderness lodge for the 2 days?

There is enough cool stuff to keep your 4 yr old occupied. Try the campfire at Ft. Wilderness one night. They show a free Disney movie and have fun swimming. We have done this with our 5 year old and she actually enjoys the down time at the pool more.

I had a wonderful time resort hopping last time I was at WDW. I agree, there's enough activities to keep a child busy without going inside the parks. Pools, video games (like at the Contemporary), and there's Legoland at Downtown Disney. (among other things)

Took a few activitives from my post over on the The New (Part 4) WL FAQ Thread... hope this will help with your planning.

The Electrical Water Pageant is nightly at 9:35p.m. on Bay Lake. (Note: May be canceled due to inclement weather.)

Are tours of Disney's Wilderness Lodge available?
A unique tour, called the "Wonders of the Lodge," is offered to guest on various days beginning at 9:00a.m. This guided tour provides an informative look at the history of Disney's Wilderness Lodge, including its distinctive construction, theming and artwork. Please call the Front Desk for the schedule of the tour days and availability. (Guest should meet in the Lobby of Wilderness Lodge.)
What activities are available at WL for children?
On select days Wilderness lodge has programs for children: Duck Races on Upper Silver Creek, Pool Games, Fireside Storytelling, (Meet in your pajamas at the Mercantile Fireplace) Beach Games, Penny Toss & Duck Rings.
Daily Activities: Open Crafts and Games in Cub's Den (free)
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
*For good rainy day activities, ask for a Kid's activity/coloring book at the bell station or a list of Hidden Mickeys at Guest services. You can also get a list of the resort's music at the Mercantile shop.
Explore the resort:
Indian artifacts, historic paintings, and survey maps are displayed. Follow Silver Creek from it's indoor origin as a Hot Spring and onward outside as a bubbling brook and waterfall, eventually making it's way to Bay Lake.
Flag family:
Ask about becoming a Flag family. Each morning a family is selected to go on the Lodge roof to help raise the flag! This is popular, so inquire at check-in for a better chance.

Honestly I would do one day at the MK. At 4 1/2 it's not like he won't notice the MK!

Just FYI, there isn't a Legoland at DD. Legoland is a theme park. At DD there is a Lego store, with a small outside play/building area.

We're doing the same thing in August before our cruise. My kids are older though and hopefully will be more understanding. We do have leftover 'plusses' and plan to go to a waterpark one day. I'm looking forward to exploring the hotels and hanging at the pool. I think there should be enough to do for two days. He'll probably ask when you're going to the park but I would make sure you explain it to him several times and let him choose other things he'd like to do.

My only advise is to sleep with one eye open....LOL:earsboy:

In some states, your trip would be considered child abuse !!!

Have a great trip!!!

I second the post that suggested one day in MK - or maybe a couple of mornings (since you're worried about the heat). As a 35 year old woman I'm not sure I could see the castle and not go into the park without a few tears.

Reminds me of that Chevy Chase Vacation movie where they get to the park and it's closed. I always feel so sorry for that family when they can see all the rides and can't get in
