I added up all my DVC costs thus far (initial purchase, 2 years worth of dues, EVERYTHING) and divided it by the number of nights I've used points to stay at DVC (including the upcoming trip). My stays have averaged $901 a night thus far ... I'm looking forward to watching that number come down each year!

Interesting....I ran these number too and right now, it's still really high (we've only been members for 19 months). BUT, after our June trip, it will be nearly cut in half! Wow!

I think I'll wait a few years before I attempt that particular equation!;)

I was curious so I did some calculations. We've been members since early 2006. I came up with $528 per night. What a deal!

I'm down to about $450 and with a few 2bdrms thrown in thats not that bad at all.

I so am enjoying our DVC it's not even funny

If you were in a grand villa!

Ha! Ha!

One of these days that number will look pretty good!

I was just curious b/c I was reading a thread on how much a Disney vacation costs. There were quite a few responses from DVC members who said their lodging was free b/c of DVC points ... nobody even bothered to factor in the cost of the dues (let alone initial purchase price). I believe DVC will save us money in the long run, but it certainly isn't "free".

Price out your nights through CRO for the rooms you've stayed in thusfar. You'll feel better about your cost using this "fuzzy math"! :goodvibes

2007 was my first year to use DVC. Six nights in a two bedroom at SSR and eight nights in a studio at OKW. I will be at OKW in a few weeks making my nightly cost being $885.19 :scared1: But how can you really estimate the true value of it all? If it wasn't for DVC my brother and his family wouldn't have joined us last July. My parents and I wouldn't have made the trip in Nov. And I certainly wouldn't be going with my friends in a few weeks. Money isn't always as important as fun and memories.

Over the years my cost per night will continue to go down. But the value of the fun and memories will continue to go up. As many point out, DVC doesn't save money any more than buying something at 30% off "saves" you money. It is still money spent! However, I believe it is money well spent. It has allowed me to do things I could not have done any other way. And I haven't even been traveling on DVC for an entire year yet. I'm so looking forward to many more years.

I'm at $835 a night, however, I know within 2-3 years I'll be FAR below CRO prices per night, so it's worth it.

Ok....I like my math much better....It came out so much better....

5nights WLV 2BR......$3955@790 a night
5nights OKW 1BR......$2155@430 a night
3nights BCV 1BR......$1305@435 a night
7nights SSR 1BR......$3017@430 a night

TOTAL of room cost $10,422....if I paid cash and not points.

Yes I got a nice chunk of my "investment" used....but....
I WOULD HAVE NEVER PAID THOSE ROOM RATE PRICES:lmao:

DVC spoiled me.....now I want the 1 and 2 BR....I would have never paid cash rates at those prices....at those prices....DVC seems like a great buy.

BTW I have 200 pts that I bought last yr....so far I spent on my DVC....

150pts.....13,200
50 pts....... 4900
07 dues 750 approx
08 dues 750 appox
08 dues 250 approx...50 pt add on.
Total........$19,750....damn disney got a lot of my money:goodvibes

In my head....I'm gonna think of it as.....I already was able to use
half of my investment already in less than 2 yrs...

Am I doing the math right?
Kerri

We just bought a few months ago and came back from our first DVC stay of 9 nights, so our per night rate was $2496! And we haven't even been charged dues yet. Can't wait for that number to come down.

:rotfl2: this is definitely an interesting way to look at it! Glad the number goes down very quickly!

Do I want to know our cost per night. However........We took three trips last year! One was without children. That would not have happened without our DVC!:lovestruc
