We only have 9 days left. We have been counting down forever and now it seems within reach.
Unfortunately, we experienced a tragedy this weekend that has definately doused our excitement.
A dear friend and neighbor decided to take his own life early Sunday evening. My wife is an ICU nurse and was first on the scene and performed CPR. Tagically, he had shot himself and my wife now has images in her mind that can never be erased. Even with all her training, nothing could have prepared her for this.
My two daughters are best friends with his two daughters and are having a pretty rough time of it as well, especially since this means they will be moving away to live with their mother now.
This is so very new to us. I've never experienced anything like it before. I had spent a lot of time with him this weekend trying to help him.
We very nearly called and canceled our plans for next week, but as we sat down with the whole family and discussed the best option, we all agreed that it would be the best thing ofr us to go ahead and go. At first we weren't sure because it seemed disrespectful to take off to Disneyland, of all places, on the heels of such a traumatic event. Upon reflection, we could think of no better place to be. What good would it do to sit at home?
So, we will try to muster all the excitement we can and head for the happiest place on earth in 9 days!!
Peace to all.
