Only 1 more day of horrible work

It is my third week of work, I just got my first paycheck tonight, and I hate it. I work at a preschool/daycare and I hate that because I am the new girl I get taken advantage of by everybody. The parents do not know me yet so when they have a complaint they blame me, even if the child is not in my class! They look at me and think I am young and have no idea what I am doing. Yes I am younger than most otehr teachers ( I am 23) but I have been doing daycare for 6 years now and this is my third year of preschool. The other teacher gets praised for doing a great job and the parents love her, but they don't see her telling the kids to shut up, forcing children to do activities they don't want to do, forcing them to eat, holding them down. Oy, I am just frustrated and don't like the fact that they break the rules and regulations all the time, then blame me when we have incidents that are beyond my control.

Only 1 more day of work, then 2 glorious days off and away from that place. I just have to think that each day I work, is one day closer to our disney cruise.

Don't suppose you can look for a better day care to work at??? Doesn't sound like this is one I'd want to enroll my children in. Good luck!

If you're determined to stay in that job, maybe it's time to push back a little. Be very professional with everyone, staff and parents included. But don't let them take advantage of you or blame you for every little thing. If a parent from another class tries to pin something on you, just say, "I understand you're having an issue but your child is not in my class so I can't help you. I suggest you speak to the director." If someone tries to blame a certain situation on you, calmly explain what actually happened even if it means exposing the teacher who is breaking the rules. Just try to stay calm and, above all, don't get defensive. Just explain the facts. Do your job as best you can in that environment. Keep your eyes open and don't let yourself be pushed to do anything you know is wrong. If the other teacher tries to get you to do something wrong, tell her you understand it to be against the rules and you won't do it. This should help you gain respect and get people to stop trying to mess with you.

Good luck! I hope it all works out and becomes easier to work there.:)

I live by one theory... you tell people how to treat you.

You may be new and young but are you confident? Self assured? A complete person? People will not dump on a person whose whole demeanor will not allow it.

You have 6 years of experience, let people know it by how you carry yourself. Everyone looks for a target, learn to deflect it.

It's a hard way of dealing, but unfortunately, unless you learn it, you will take it with you wherever you go.

Good luck!:thumbsup2

Wow--they tell the kids to shut up and force them to eat? They not only sound like they're "breaking the rules" but are also abusive. I could not work in a place like that.

Not sure I'd stay in a job like that.
