I am currently trying to upload photos to Flickr. I am somewhat new to using it and it is taking a LONG time to upload just 5 photos at a time.

I haven't paid for a full subscription, would that change the speed of downloading? What else do you get for a paid subscription over the free?

Also, can I download the pics directly from the camera to Flickr or do I have to upload them to the computer first?

Maybe another site would be better/faster?

Thank you!,

Dawn

Find the flickr uploader on that site. It is definitely faster. I have the paid service, so I can't tell if paying = faster loading.

The tool they give you though does allow you to create a folder on flickr and post directly to that set.

Hmmmm....Thank you. I can't find it.....maybe that is the paid subscription. I don't mind paying. I was just trying to play with it first and see how easy it is. I have just spent 2 hours on it and haven't gotten that much done it seems! It is taking forever to upload.

I will go back and keep playing a bit and see if I can find it. All I have found is the basic uploader which allows about 5 at a time and I think it is resizing my pics. I need to figure that out.

My problem isn't so much in taking SLR pics.....I did that way back when I had film, (although I am very rusty!) but it is the darned computer end of it. I feel like an idiot with all of this!

Ok, new set of questions.

I have paid for a year's subscription now.

When I upload my photos from my camera directly to the computer how can I tell it to load directly to Flickr and not only to my harddrive?

Thanks,

Dawn

I don't know of a way to do this.

I don't believe there is a difference in upload speed between free and paid accounts. I did not notice one when I paid for mine. The paid account lets you access your original images, removes the 200 images visible limit (all the pictures you upload will show), adds statistics, and maybe a few other things.

When you open the flickr uploader look for the light switch icon and click on that. When that dialog window opens you can set the uploader to resize the picture when it uploads. If you are uploading directly from your camera and the files are fairly large is will take some time to upload. If you resize for web viewing they will upload much faster.

I don't have an answer for uploading to Flickr at the same time you upload to the computer from your camera.

I do however have a bit of information about upload speed to websites in general. Most ISP's don't advertise their upload speeds in the same extra large lettering as they do their download speeds. When they say you're getting 3, 5, or 10+Mbps downloads they minimize the fact that your upload speeds are just a portion of that. Usually in the 300Kbps range. So while you're sites seem to load fast you generally won't be able to upload at anywhere near the same speed as you are able to download at.
