Tried to make our first SSR reservations online the other day and the system kept telling me that the form wasn't complete. It didn't identify what wasn't complete so I gave up and emailed MS. There was a spot to check if I was borrowing points, but I was unsure if that was what I was doing or not since the ressies are for May '05 and our points don't become available til March '05. I was told I could go ahead and make reservations now, so it just didn't make sense.

Any tips from veterans on how to use the online system or is calling in better?

Unless you're trying to make the reservation during hours when MS is closed, I'd just call. It's much easier to walk through the process with a human being, particularly since you are very new to the process. Most CMs are very helpful and will offer alternative suggestions if necessary, inquire about view and other room requests, and so on.

Even when calling, you'll get a written confirmation of the booking in about a week.

Someone reported here a while ago that if you don't check the borrow box, it won't go through. I guess they want that box checked even if you are sure you don't have to borrow.

Use the phone. That way you can get an instant answer.

I was afraid to check the borrow box because the warning was so ominous....something about not being able to get the points back or something. I didn't want them to disappear into neverland!

It only applies if you are borrowing points from a future Use Year. They will go through the same process with you verbally if you have to borrow, reminding you that borrowing is a final transaction and that points cannot be moved back into their original Use Year even if you cancel the trip.

If you are actually borrowing, then it should be taken very seriously. But if you aren't borrowing for this particular trip, just check the box and you'll be fine. Just double-check your entries on the form to make sure you have your dates / room size / resort correct. If you were to complete the form wrong, and DVC did borrow points to book your incorrect reservation, you may have a tough time convincing them to "un-borrow" the points.

Better yet, just call. :)
