online high school

Does anyone have experience with online private high schools? My 15 year old daughter is asking to switch from her public school-a relatively good one so that she can pursue acting to an accredited online school. She has never been involved with school but academically is doing very well. Has two good friends but not interested in most of the social events held at school. Any advice would be much appreciated!

We use K12. I really like them. Here is the New York page for you: http://www.k12.com/curriculum_and_products/participating-schools-in-new-york/ The laws vary by state so you need to make sure that online school is legal. I homeschooled in New York when DS was little and their laws are some of the toughest. We live in Florida now. Here K12 is considered public school and not private so we have no tuition. New York does not participate as a public school option but from what I saw (just a glance) you can do a private school through them.

I used the American School of Correspondence to complete high school. It's not online, but done through the mail. It is accredited and I had no problem with my diploma when applying to college. I live in New York as well. If your daughter is over 16, she can just drop out of school and at that point, New York no longer cares what she does, so you don't have to report your homeschooling activities to the state.

My son was enrolled in Connections Academy, they are not in every state though. They are an online public school online at home. I liked that there were actual teachers to discuss things with and to evaluate his work. We did it for four years and found it to be a good experience. There is no cost to you, other than basic school supplies and such though.

He chose to go to a B&M public High School this year and is doing quite well I am pleased to say.
