which ones have you used, how were the prices and were you satisfied?

My daughter needs new glasses and with my sons broken arm we have eaten up most of our flex account. :headache:

I've used Zenni Optical too. My doctor's office was nice enough to help me when I was placing the order (I was not sure about lens thickness so I called and asked them). Everything else was fairly easy to fill out on the order form. The glasses came in approximately 2 weeks. I ordered prescription sunglasses first. I like them and they fit well so I'm going to order my regular glasses this week.

I chose Zenni because I've seen two different tv programs with ideas on how to save money. Both suggested ordering glasses online, and both recommended Zenni.

I would steer clear of eyebuydirect.com!! I ordered glasses through them earlier this year (based on decent reviews online) and had nothing but trouble from the start.
It took twice as long for delivery as they had told me, and then they were the wrong Rx when they got here.
I sent them an email, got a rude response, had to send them back at my expense, and they sent back the exact same pair of glasses! I took them to the local eyeglass place to have the Rx verified, and they hadn't changed the lenses at all.
I emailed them again, and they got so nasty, I told them I would be sending a letter to the BBB. Still no refund ~ worst company I have ever dealt with!

I had a HORRIBLE experience with Zenni - never again!

But I have had good experiences with both 39dollarglasses.com and coastalcontacts.com (they sell glasses too, not just contacts.)

I've used eyebuydirect.com and had no problems with them. True, the delivery took quite a while, but the frames are nice. For the price I paid ($14.95) I was expecting them to snap in half in no time or already be broken when I took them out of the box! But I've had them for months and they're still going strong! Plus you get a freebie case and lense cleaner.

DH & I have each bought 3 different pairs from them (2 for everyday, plus tinted to use as sunglasses). The hardest part for us has been adjusting the frames to our faces once they arrive (takes a little practice to get the bends right).

I've used Coastal contacts twice and so far no problems.

They have two really good specials going on right now. Like them on Facebook and if it's your state's day you can get a free pair of glasses. The other special is SAVE38. This code will get you $38 off a pair of glasses. All their glasses include basic lenses and glasses start at $38 so you could get a free pair. I just bought a pair of the $38 glasses for oldest DS (and the frames were Guess) and only paid $9.99 for scratch resistance and for shipping. Total cost $22.32.:thumbsup2

We have used Zenni optical for the last 2 years. I can get a child's glasses including sunglass clip ons, and shipping and handling for around $30. This includes high index and anti-reflective coating.

You do need to know the pupil distance. I strongly suggest getting this with your prescription. If you don't have it, take the kids back and ask them for it. It's nothing to it. Most places have this electronic device they have you look through, kind of like an old fashioned view finder. It gives the measurement in seconds.

There is a "how to" section that walks you through how to get it on your own. But if you are the least bit off it will have an impact.

You also need the temple distance which is basically the arm length of the glasses. You can look at your children's glasses they have now. It might be imprinted on the side. It's the last 3 digits nearest the glasses. The reason you need this number is so you won't have the excess overhang of "frame arm" behind the ears.

There are other numbers that if you know them, it's helpful but the two above have been the most helpful for us.

HTH!

Oh yeah. We found Lens Crafters is the best place for us to get the frames adjusted. They advertise they will adjust frames from any retailer. They have been pleasant every time we have gone.

I almost forgot, we have had to replace the frame before. I mentioned the arm broke (freak accident) while talking to a Zenni rep and was offered a replacement frame (same one) for 1/2 price! I think it was $7. It was a great deal. And normally the frames hold up well. We took the glasses to Lens Crafters. They popped the lens out of the old frame and popped them into the new one and adjusted it for us. How nice was that?!

I ordered from Zenni and Greateyeglasses.com and found GE much better. I reviewed both on this forum a while ago.

I have ordered from Zenni with no problems but have found that you get what you pay for, lol. I paid $12 for spare pairs for my dd and I. I don't know that they would hold up to everyday wear. maybe the more expensive ones are a better quality.

I get my families eyes checked yearly then take the script to americas best and get 2 for 69 yeah it take a week to come in but its easy

Another vote for Zenni. That is the only place I will get DH's glasses. He is very hard on glasses, breaks a pair a year. He has a very strong script, plus astigmatism. And he needs bifocals. Last time I ordered glasses for him, we paid $106 for 2 pair. That included one pair of clip on sunglasses, custom tinting on one pair, Anti reflection coating on both and no line bifocals on both. He told me the other day that these are the best glasses he has ever had. Shipping did take 4 weeks. But we were told that before we placed the order(his type of lenses required longer processing).

Oh, and I agree with the above poster...get your PD from your optometrist. Or, we just stop at Walmart vision center to get the PD measurement. Takes seconds and they are happy to do it.

My DH and I both have ordered from Zenni... probably about 15 pairs total. No problems at all. One of my pairs, I wore nearly daily with no problems for about a year. I am getting ready to place another order very soon!

Have any of you guys had problems asking your eye docs for your prescription. I have always just bought my glasses from my eye doctor office but I'm paying $300 or more when it's all said and done and I just can't afford it anymore. I just feel funny asking for my prescription so I can buy the glasses elsewhere. Honestly I just found out a couple months that you can actually buy glasses online.

They should hand it to you after your exam! You shouldn't have to ask for it. But if you do have to ask, don't feel the least bit funny about it. You paid for it. It's your information to do with as you wish.
