Does anyone have advice on getting a degree from an online/at home programs? It would be a business degree (possibly management).

There aren't any schools locally and I would still need to work, so I have to look into online programs (that don't require actual classroom time).

Any help is appreciated.

The University of Maryland University College has one of the best on-line programs of any college. They have been working with the military for many, many years so they are experts at providing "distance" learning. They are also well-respected in the working world, unlike some of the other places.

Most employers look down on degrees from online only institutions. Your best bet is to find a physical University that offers distance learning programs. Like the PP mentioned, University of Maryland has a popular one. Other Universities are also expanding distance learning for nontraditional student so that you can get a degree from that University while never actually stepping on campus. The degree looks exactly the same, so when you go to apply for a job it looks a LOT better than one of the online only schools.

I agree. If you check into it, there are a lot of traditional colleges offering online programs now.

I completely agree. You'd be surprised how many Universities/Colleges have offer online courses.

I'm currently working on an on-line degree in court reporting since there are no schools that offer a court reporting program in my area (Massachusetts).

I was very leary about going with an on-line program for the same reason that someone mentioned above. I felt like the degree I earned wouldn't be perceived as legitimate as a degree earned on an actual campus. That said, I have a bachelor's degree that I earned traditionally, and the on-line degree is by far much more difficult. I thought it would be a breeze to be able to work at your own pace, etc. but you are much more accountable for staying on top of things when there's no one there to "report" to on a day to day basis.

I also agree with those that said that on line degrees offered by schools that also have a "real" physical campus seem to be more legitimate than the ones that have on line degrees only.

Good luck with your search!

university of phoenix has some goog programs, i did one of my masters there and they have ground campus locations, 4 here in illinois

Yes, check the universities or colleges near you first. I take online classes at my community college in addition to evening campus classes. They offer both distance learning via computer and hybrid classes which meet half of the time on campus and then have the rest online. These are only for prerequisites and basic general education classes, though, like humanities, basic math, etc.

You might also want to check the Washington State University online degree program. Where are you located? Maybe someone can refer you to a place based on your location.

Yes, most employers look down on degrees from online only institutions. I am not sure about online universities like the University of Phoenix being accepted in your field so I would be careful. I would especially be careful about diploma mills that are not accredited. I know in my dh's line of work (professional engineering) a degree from the University of Phoenix is not taken seriously. It is also very expensive.
