Exactly what is online check in & what is the advantage to it?

You enter your estimated arrival time, have a few options for room requests, and enter your credit card info for room charges, and then you receive a text on your check in day when your room is ready. It is supposed to save time and allow you to bypass the front desk. I prefer to check in in person. The one time I used online check in, I never received a text and had to go to the front desk anyway so there was no benefit. I also prefer to be there in person, that way if I'm unhappy with the room I receive I can ask to be reassigned at that time.

Doing Online Check In will most likely save you some time when you arrive. Some of the stuff that is normally done at the check in desk is already done. And if you do Online Check In it's possible you would be able to Bypass The Front Desk altogether and head straight to your room when you arrive.

Having said that, one huge misconception is that if you do Online Check In you can't still go to the front desk when you arrive and check in. That is not true. You can still check in at the Front Desk, get any questions answered and inquire about switching rooms if you don't like the one you were assigned.

We like to do Online Check In because it makes our trip feel even closer once that is done. But there is no other pro or con to doing it or not other than what I mentioned. Doing it or not has no affect on whether you get your room requests granted. Doing it or not has no affect on the possibility of a pixie dust upgrade, etc.

Thanks! We do club level & last time someone greeted us & brought us to a separate check in area. Does the grand Floridian do that also? Don't want to miss that by doing on-line check in.
