When you do online check-in, is your welcome home packet left in your room or do you need to go to front desk to pick up? TIA

On-line check in and direct to room are two different things. On-line requires that you still visit the front desk, direct to room doesn't.

Bill, for direct to room, will it be in the room when you get there? This is my first time trying direct to room.

As I'm thinking about it.....how do I know if I did direct to room or online?

You have to sign up for either. The reason for on-line check in and direct to room, while it does speed guests on their way, was put in place to save Disney money. They don't want you to take up the CM's time at the front desk. My understanding is that they have the room packet info available in the lobby.

How can I verify which one I selected?

When you check-in online it will ask you if you want to leave your phone number to receive a text when your room is ready. You will put your estimated time of arrival/leaving too. Around the time I put down to arrive, I received my first text around that estimated arrival time saying my room was not quiet ready. The second text came a bit late informing me my room was ready and room number. I also received an email. No need to stop by the front desk. We had a split stay (BCV and Kidani - still here). Did the same for both. No welcome packet in room. Did not need one. Enough information in the room by the phone.

Ok, I see where I can leave my cell number. I'm going to leave my number but I still need to go to front desk as I forgot what PINs I selected for room charging

On my most recent stay (last week), a split stay, I selected the same options at both resorts, and thought I'd set up room charging. Yet at the first resort, I had to go to the front desk and even at that, I got a call when I got to my room that I'd forgotten to set up room charging (Umm, I thought I did that on-line beforehand). Anyways, for the second resort, I got a text in the early afternoon that my room wasn't quite ready, then about an hour later (it was around 2:45pm) I got another text telling me my new room #. And there was no problem with room charging. I can't remember doing anything different beforehand at the two resorts, so I'm a little puzzled about the difference in what happened.
By the way, at both resorts, there was a schedule of activities in my room, but it was obviously previously used. At one resort it had coffee spots all over it. There was no "welcome packet", so the only way I knew park hours was to go on-line or watch Disney TV. I missed the "welcome packet".

Yes, I provided my cell phone number during the on line check in. Is that what determines a "direct to room"? Are you guaranteed a direct to room just by leaving a phone number for texts?

I forgot to mention that for our (split stay) Kidani stay - the second part - both my son and I got the same text saying please stop by the front desk for your room assignment. Don't know why. Also, this time around - DH's band did not work for the room at Kidani and they had to code it again. But yes, leaving your cell number, if this is what you wish, you will get notified and go directly to your room. My middle son at Beach Club had everything set up but still had to go back to the desk to give his credit information again. So again - not to confuse everyone - just like the bands - the system does not work all the time.
