Do you think it will help or hurt your chance for a certain request? For example:
At the 11 month window one books a value studio at AKV with a request of a savanna view. If they assign rooms through on line check in in advance, what criteria do they use for granting request? Maybe booking date? In that case it would help, I think.
If checking in normally (when you actually arrive), if you can be there at 7am on your check in date, would your chance of getting that savanna view room better or worse than using online check in?
what are your thoughts?

There has not been any claim by DVC that the online check in process will affect room assignment either way. As it is, this can vary by DVC resort. For example, OKW typically preassigns whereas I know BWV will give assignments first to Magical Express guests on their way from the airport. My guess is that the online checkin won't have an impact on receiving specific requests any better than taking your chances the old way. Time will tell...

Now if I could just figure out a way to get paid for all this (useless?) information I keep in my head! :wizard:

LOL! They say keeping one's brain active is the key to keeping your wits about you in your old age. A cash payoff might be more useful these days though, LOL! :)

Does anyone know how/when VWL assigns units? I have a dedicated 2BR reserved and have requested an atrium room facing the pool on a high floor. I plan to do the online check-in 10 days out to reiterate my request and let them know that I don't care if the unit is ready before 4PM. I'll be onsite at OKW the week before my family arrives for our VWL stay, so I also plan to show up bright and early on check-in day to see what they can do, again reiterating my request and the fact that I don't care about getting into the unit early. I figure this covers all the bases, but I'm wondering if it's overkill :confused3 I want to be sure I've done all I can to get my preferred accommodation without looking like a pushy nut job, which is a tricky proposition :lmao:

Well, here's my thumbs up for our first experience with on-line check-in. It was absolutely fabulous:yay: :yay:

We arrived very early this past Saturday at OKW (not our home resort). Did on-line check-in and requested near hospitality house, first floor. Not only did we get the first building across from the hospitality house AND first floor, but our package was waiting for us when we arrived about 9:30 am AND THE ROOM WAS READY :yay: :cool1:

Maybe coincidence, but maybe on-line check-in has advantages. Whatever the case, I'm sold! So great too because we were able to put our cooler things in the fridge and get out right away for a day at MK. Our daughter ran the Inaugural Princess 1/2 Marathon on Sunday and did awesome. What a great DVC weekend. :dance3:

We have owned at OKW since 1993 our room has always bene ready regardless of the size or time of day. That's the beauty of such a large resort. Oh, and we always get the location we request...major pickie dust happening for us.

I'm having problems trying to enter a room request when I attempt to check-in online. Is anyone else having this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

You can't enter the room request on-line. MS has to enter it for you the old way.

I have used the on-line check in twice now and each time my only visible choices were:
Ground Floor and Close to Transportation.

I am trying to do on line checking. How long should I be waiting, watching Tinkerbell, and reading, do not refresh this page? 2-3 minutes? I'm wondering if my security is just not letting the check in page come up. I've not been successful getting into either that or "enter celebration" even after a 4 minute wait.

Bobbi:goodvibes

The Hospitality House area is actually a booking category, so that was a certainty for you no matter what time or method was used to check in. Glad you enjoyed your trip! :)

I didn't have either of those options. It says you can add up to 2 room requests and when you hit the button there is a pop up. It then says enter up to 2 room requests and have "cancel" and "save" buttons on the bottom. The problem is that it won't let me enter text. Maybe it's supposed to have choices that just aren't popping up. ????

Thanks for letting me know.

Oops - I just realized that this is the DVC board. I did a search and didn't even think to look at which board it's on.

On our first trip to the VWL we requested two 2bds near the elevator, not the 5th floor. We got the room I was hoping for facing the pool, 3rd floor and our other 2br was the room diagonally across the atrium which is also the same shape which is larger than the regular 2bd and has more windows. I was talking to a VWL owner who has been requesting that pool view room for a few years now and hasn't gotten it yet. So I'm thinking there is a lot of just plain old luck in getting rooms.

We arrived at the Boardwalk very late about 1:30 a.m. March 9. WE did online check in before we left. Unfortunatley there was only one person working the desk, so we had to wait quite a while even though are package was ready and our check in took about 30 seconds. I imagine during the day it would be quick with a separate check in window. We didnt get any requests but our room was fine and we had a great time.
