When you do online checkin for Aulani, what are the request choices for ocean view units? Do they ask if you want higher floor etc?

We are at Aulani now, and did online check in. The only choice I saw when I checked in was 1st floor. I had called to request specific rooms, and I was almost accommodated (it's the location I requested, but 8th floor rather than 10 or higher in my request). Still pretty good!

But did you have an ocean view room???? I didn't think ocean view could be on the first floor anyway. I'm just curious if they allow you to request "high floor" or not for OV rooms.

Oops, sorry...I missed the OV part of your post. We are in Island Garden view, but still have a nice view of the ocean :-)

Just bumping to see if anyone knows the answer to my question yet. I'm trying to decide if I want to do online check in or not.

We did online check in for our stay last August. I didnt have much luck with online requests through the website during reservation time, so I called MS directly and had them add my room request on aroud the time that we had made our reservations at 7 months out. We were poolview so I requested 5th floor since that is the highest poolview floor.

During the online check in process my room request was not listed, so I called MS again and they assured me that it was listed. When we arrived at Aulani I inquired about our room request again during check in and they had it. He said there was a room available on the first floor right away, but if we were willing to wait there would be one coming available on the 5th floor soon.

So of course we waited, hung around and enjoyed the resort, a couple of hours later our 5th floor room was ready and it was worth it!

I recommend calling or Emailing your request in just to be sure.

If you want to find out specific requests for your category I recommend looking on this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2907389

When I did check in online there wasnt really request categories... just more of a blank field where you could list what you want, and it wasnt letting me put anything into that field. May be different now.

Actually, we aren't allowed to email or fax requests to the resort. I have put my request of higher floor into MS, but I was hopeful that there would be something online check into verify the request. I guess not, so I don't think I'll do online check in.

Right, I didn't Email the resort, I Emailed member services. Sorry, I should have been more specific in my previous post.

I have read some folks on the boards say that when they did online check in they didn't even have to go to the check in counter. I did not experience that, we still went to the counter... but because I really wanted my room request granted (and I did wind up getting it) I was happy to go to the check in counter if thats what it took.

We did online check-in followed by a call to Member Services to put our request in for an upper floor. When we got to the resort (about 1:30 or so) we were met at the car and never went to the front counter. We were welcomed by name, given our lei's and escorted into the lobby for a brief explanation of where everything was and then handed our packet with out keys. Our room was ready and we went right to it. Loved the experience. On the same trip we stayed at the Villa's of the Grand Californian which doesn't have online check-in. Got in about 5:00 pm and had to wait in line at the front desk. Again our room was ready, but would have loved the online check-in where our packet would have been ready.

I kind of like that idea of calling MS AFTER online check in to confirm the request. That sounds like the perfect way to do it.
