Online Check In and Room Not Ready At Arrival

Just curious what happens if you do early check in on the internet, and the room is not ready when you get to the hotel.

Our flight is scheduled to arrive at 12:30, and I anticipate that we will arrive at Disney around 2:00, which is before check in time. So I'm curious to know whether if you do early check in on the internet, whether you can still just get your room key for tickets and leave your bags at the resort, and then go back to your room later.

Sometimes, families pack swimsuits and go swimming at the resorts. Others get snacks or go eat dinner.
I know they will text or you can call to find out when your room is ready.
