Will be heading to Disneyland on April 5th for one week. We plan on getting a 3 day tix for Disney. But, I am trying to figure our what else to do. DH doesn't want to head down to Dan Diego, so we need to stay in the general area. We will be there with our 2 kids (DD - 9 and DS - 7).

This will be our first visit to the area with the kids. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How far is "in the general area"? Will you be driving? Is Universal Studios too far? How about the Long Beach Aquarium? Knotts Berry Farm is close by. There's also the beach, shopping, the Nixon Library, Discovery Science Center.

Yes, we will have a car. We prefer not to drive more than an hour away, if that's possible. Thank you for your suggestions. I will into them. :)

OK, Universal would be just on the outer edge of your 1 hour limit, depending on traffic. Everything else I mentioned should be fine. Depending on your interests the are plenty of other things to do, as well. Like catching a movie at the Disney El Capitan Theatre, seeing the Space Shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center, or taking a whale watching cruise. Even Legoland is about an hour's drive of Anaheim.

We leave with the kids for our first CA trip in July.
During the weekend we plan to go to
Laguna Beach (about 20 miles from Anaheim) for some of the US' best tidal pools
The Tar Pits
The Griffith Observatory ( can get a pic of the fam w/ the Hollywood sign there, too)
The last night we're staying onboard the Queen Mary (Mr FFerret works with ships and daughter loves hauntings)
HTH! :)

This sounds like a perfect trip! Besides the night on the Queen Mary, what other areas are you staying in?

Thanks; I love, love, love planning for Disney.:)

I found a hotel not quite on Laguna Beach Oh my goodness, California is expensive!

I have kids the same age as you. A day trip to Legoland has been a huge success for us. I would definitely recommend looking into spending a full day at Legoland.

I think US or maybe even go to a movie studio tour at WB. US if fun & everyone in our family always loves it. We have gone when our kids are your kids ages & they loved it!

some suggestions:
knotts berry farm
universal
tour Hollywood: walk of fame, El Capitan Theatre and the new Ghiradelli soda shop next door
spend the day in downtown Disney: rainforest café or other resturants, build-a-bear; Ridemakerz , ESPN zone...
