One week to go and we're sick UPDATE

Hi everyone,
Well DD did NOT have the stomach flu it was her appendix! By the time we realized it, it had already ruptured, so I'm typing this from the hospital. Our Disney trip is on hold, but DD is doing fine and that's all you can ask for!

We WILL get to Disney eventually, once she is feeling better. Anyone think there is a chance of getting ressies for Christmas this year?

I am so sorry about your DD and what you are having to go through. We thought our DD12, then DD3, had appendicitis. Nope, turns out she was only DIABETIC!

So sorry to hear about your DD! I guess you're lucky they found out she needed the appendectomy before you left for DW!!! I am an OR nurse. Kids usually bounce back from surgery pretty quick. We leave for DW tomorrow and my DD age 3 has an ear infection. We have another MD appt today! I hope you guys get to reschedule for DW soon!

Christmas week is the busiest week at WDW and things could be already sold out. Especially now that the 45-day deadline for packages has come and gone. Disney shows some availability checking out on 12/29. Good luck!

I would take appendicitis over diabetes, honestly. diabetes is a life long illness that has far more complications down the road. I hope your DD is dealing well with her diabetes and her health is good. We have a real great cookbook for kids with diabetes by colleen bartley called americas best cookbook for kids with diabetes.

I am sorry you had to go through this! How horrible for all of you but i am so glad to hear your DD is on the mend and you are looking to blue skies over Disney! We just got back from disney in mid october and the manager we talked to there said that new years eve this past was far more busy than christmas had been. They had to close down the parks by 10am due to capacity! And they get the most proposals on that day than any other time!
We are planning our next WDW trip to be the first week of december 2008 or 2009. The manager said that is a slowwww time because everyone has departed from thanksgiving stays and its too early for the xmas crowd. So maybe you can squeeze in an early december trip?
Best of everything and you will definitely have one more thing to give thanks for at your thanksgiving day table!

blackforest I'm so sorry to hear your DD is diabetic. I am a Type I diabetic myself, so I know first hand what that is like! I'd take the appendicitis over it any day - although I'd just prefer that all our kids be healthy! Does your DD have a pump? I've had mine for over 10 years now and I LOVE it! Nursejilly I hope your DD's ear gets better and you have a FABULOUS Disney trip! Take a spin on the teacups for me!!!

We were thinking Christmas because I am a teacher and don't really get vacations days and it looks like the three personal days I did have will go towards time spent with DD while she is in the hospital. We have another two or three days until the drainage bag comes out and we can go home and then we'll have to return in 6-8 weeks for the surgery to remove her appendix. However, the dr said today that while we could travel over Christmas there is a small chance that she could have another attack, so we'll probably just wait and do Disney another time. My DH said I could take days without pay to go, so maybe February or March sometime?

Now I've got to go to the Dr's with DS age 3 months, he has an infected toe!?!?!?! I'm sure it is nothing, but we aren't taking any chances!!!

I am getting over a virus which has had me out of work for a week. I thought to cancel our trip as I've taken too much time off work.

Yes DD12 Katie has had her pump for a little over a year now. What a huge difference! We feel more normal now than in the last 8+ years.

Watch those toes. DD12 has had one nail operated on and now getting ready to do the second one.

Hi All!
You wouldn't believe this if I told you, but we wound up in the ER with DS last night! He had(has) what they call a hair turniquet which is just what you think it is - hair wrapped around his toe and cutting off circulation! The ER was very nice and waived us through preliminary stuff (with the help of a phone call from our family doctor), but we still weren't out until midnight!

We're back today so the ped surgeon can check it, but once again the hospital is being incredible and rather than making a seperate appointment the ped surgeon who is taking care of my DD will also follow up with DS. They are saying now that he will have to have an incision on his toe to make sure all the hair is off - poor thing!

We also decided to wait and do Disney after the appendix surgery. The doc said she could go for Christmas, but that she might have another flair up! Who wants to ruin a vacation with that! So, maybe February!?!?! Guess I'll have to do a little research once everything has calmed down! The good news is that the airlines put my SIL's ticket on hold and Disney just moved are reservation to some arbitrary date in the future until we know what is going on!

Sometimes it seems when it rains it poors doesn't it? Sorry about your missed DW trip but I love DW in Feb and March. Crowds are low weather is usually great - maybe a little cool at night but beats the Florida heat anytime. I know how you feel. My 2 year old has a follow up with her Dr. tomorrow and we are hoping for the all clear to leave on Sat for DW. She had an ear infection and pneumonia and then proceeded to fall and fracture her clavicle all in one week. Along with our entire family getting a 12 hour stomach bug it made for an interesting week to say the least. All I really want are healthy kids the DW trip will be a bonus if we get to go and if not now then we will go another time (maybe we will see you in Feb )I hope everything goes well for both of you little ones and will say a prayer for their health along with mine.

Well, we are still in the hospital. It's going well, still draining and the doctors think it might take another day or two. DS's toe is starting to look better so things are looking up!

My MIL rescheduled our trip to WDW for President's Day week. She was excited that we could get rooms at the same resort. I'm hoping we can get a character meal like we had planned and that my employer will let me take a couple days without pay, since it looks like I will need my personal days to cover health issues this year! Either way we are heading to DW!!! Guess I need to update my sig with a new ticker!!!!
