I listen to the same podcast that kpadalik is referring to. It was a great interview they had, well worth the time to listen to (MGW).
This is my first post on the D23 club, I was in WDW last week.
All of the things I hear and read about D23 is awesome, I can't wait to read all of the articles, see all of the great pictures of the history of Disney. I think this is going to be an awesome club, I am going to aim for Anaheim 2010.
I think the area that is getting so much grief from the Disney community is they were hoping for a certain kind of club, certain kind of benefits related to visiting the theme parks. When this club did not cover the theme parks and/or include a loyalty program is when people went nuts. This is not Disney's fault but the Disney fan base that assumed this club would cover these areas.
If you listen to the other Disney fan podcasts you will see that this was always meant for the Disney fan that loves all things Disney related to the Disney Archieves. One thing came through loud and clear, they are very passionate about sharing the Disney history with all fans, they want everyone to hear the stories and see the items they have accumulated ofer the years. I would LOVE to see a Disney Museum with all of these things on display and the stories that go with them.
I really understand where Pete is coming from, and many others like myself, that would like to have the Theme parks somehow say 'Thanks for being a loyal customer'. This could be done in so many small and wonderful ways which would make all of us glad to keep coming back visit after visit. This is where I think Pete should do everything in his power to interview the President of WDW, interview Al Weiss or Jay Rasulo to talk to them and tell them what you are seeing on your boards, but not to berate them. Ask them why there is not loyalty program for theme parks and listen to them. The one thing I am sure of is this: The Disney geeks like us, multiple visits per year is a very small percentage of theme park visitors, especially in WDW, and when that is looked at in that light, the cost to run a program like that is not worth it. This is sad because we are the ones that friends and family come to to talk about their trips, what is good and bad, and what they should do.
Maybe a write-in campaign to really let them know how us Disney geeks feel about the theme parks would be a great start. When someone takes the time to write a letter and send it really shows a company how you feel. Writing an e-mail only takes a minute and does not have the same effect.
Just my two cents.
