It always amazes me when I see one way rentals cheaper than going round-trip out of MCO, but that is what's happening with the sky-high rental prices lately.

I checked a rental from 19 - 30 Jan 2012 round-trip out of MCO, and it was $600 at an off-brand agency. Renting one-way from Savannah, Georgia (SAV) or Winter Haven, Florida and returning to MCO was $480 and $450 respectively. (Kissimmee was $90 more expensive than MCO.)

Savannha is a pretty small airport but it was not more expensive for the days we were flying than MCO. Winter Haven is the next stop south of Kissimmee on the Silver Service trains, a little out of the way but not a big deal. Normally I wouldn't bother but the MCO rental car pricing is extortionate. I got quotes for $1200 for two weeks with a full size! For that amount of money, I feel like you could almost go to CarMax, buy a early 2000s Camry, and then sell it back to them at the end of the trip.
