when I was on a couple of days ago I saw something about renting a car in FLA and driving it back to whereever you live, can't find it, anyone know what I am talking about, thanks in advance.

Is this a company that would pay you to do this? Or simply a one way rental?

yep it was but not sure which one and I have been on the site for an hour trying to figure it out. It said they would charge you 14.99 a day for up to 7 days to rent the van in Fla and drive it one way back to where ever you live. Man I can't think of it, but the last time I was on was 4/2 and have been trying to figure it out, but cant

I know I saw it too. Not sure if it was an email from Avis or from one of the travel site. Go over to the transportation board and ask there. :earsgirl:

$14.95 deal on Avis MiniVan Rentals
If I could stand the drive,I'd jump on this special. But we just got back from Easter in South Carolina and it took 12 hours to get home from Charleston. It will be a very long time before I try that commute again! Those of you who drive from the Northeast to Orlando have my deepest respect.

The major rental agencies have "repositioning rates". They tend to have Florida at one end and DC and Northeast from DC at the other end. They normally run Southbound from early November to mid-December and Northbound from mid-April to late May.

I am not sure of Avis' policy, but several years ago I took advantage of this. Hertz would only allow seven days, but National would allow a rental of up to 14 days. I rented a Buick LeSabre LE for 11 days for a total, including all taxes, of $162. Took about a day and a half to come down, spent nine days here and flew back up to DC. All it cost (over the rental) was gas, $74 each for the air fare, and $40 for the taxi back home.

But wouldn't you get killed on the one way airfare?

Either book an airline like SW that has reasonable one way fares or just book your return flight 6 months later and drive in the opposite direction.

I'm trying to do this but they are giving a rate of 69.00 for a minivan. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? :confused3 I did check the "return to different location" box.

yes I put in the "K169..." code they suggested. I was asking for either May 28 coming home June6 from MCO or TPA to JFK or ISP. It is a busy weekend because it's Memorial day maybe that's why.

We've done this deal too!

If I had found this thread a day earlier we would have done it, but I had already purchased our air. Even with the gas, we would have saved $400 and not have to depart MCO at 7 am! One way driving is not bad at all. So I am really kicking myself over this.

About 6 years ago we flew one way to MCO and had this repo deal for our trip home. It was great, because we spent a couple days at WDW, visited friends and then visited my sister in Atlanta before driving home.

you have to go through the site and you have to sheck "dropping off at another location" in order to get the 14.95. I really want to do it, may need to find the money now !!! Might just make the reservations for the car and then just cancel it.
