Airfare is so expensive for out upcoming trip that we are considering renting a car and driving to Disney and then flying home. Our return date is half the price of the arrival date. Does anyone know which car rental place would have the best price to do something like this? THanks

It depends. Do you plan to keep the car while you're staying in WDW? Are you staying onsite? If you won't need a car while in FL, I would drop it off at MCO and just take ME back to the hotel. There are so many rental car companies at that location, that would give you the most options of companies to choose from. I would just tell ME you don't know yet what time pick up you'll need.

I was just thinking the other day that driving down & flying back would be the only way I'd drive to FL. By the time you pay for car rental & gas, how much does it save you?

Car rentals one way are normally triple what round trip cost is. Some rental

companys need rental cars moved from one airport to another airport aka one

way rental which are normally heck of a lot cheaper then normal prices.

just called the rental companys and asked what they need to be

moved to central Florida. You might get lucky and they might pay for your gas

cost to move it for them.. Make sure you have auto insurance that covers a

rental...

this is the link that I use when I am checking car rentals. You have to invest a lot of time to figure out which one is best. You also have to consider the price of having two drivers. You might be better off just driving your own car both ways. We have done it a few times (from CT). I like the idea that I don't have to worry about going through security at airport plus the comfort of driving your own car.

Really depends on what the rates are at the time you book the car as to who has the best rate.

I guess it all depends on one's point of view. I don't "worry" about airport security; the most I've waited in line was around 20 mins. That's around the same time taken up by a bathroom break on the road. My car is very comfortable, for around 6 hrs. By the time I could drive to VA, I would have already been in Orlando by plane. The rest is just a waste of precious vacation time unless I had intentions to stop on the way as part of the vacation (say Myrtle Beach.)
jmho. Do what works for you. :goodvibes

OP, Budget doesn't charge a 2nd driver fee for spouses. Also Alamo doesn't charge if you join their Insiders program. I'm not 100% sure, but I think National doesn't charge if you join their Emerald Aisle program.

When you're checking companies, just make sure you note whether or not you are getting unlimited mileage. It is pretty standard to have unlimited mileage for round-trip rentals, but many companies charge per mile on one-way rentals...usually around $0.40 a mile or so, and that can really add up.
