One time use points question

can you purchase 24 extra points at 7 months even if you have remaining points in your current use year?

I'mtrying to keep enough points to be able to book Aulani online (afraid waiting to call MS will be too late). The point purchase would be to get us in at poly this year.

You may purchase up to 24 OTU points per use year. You need not buy all 24 in the same transaction, but the total per use year must be 24 or less.

Thanks! Follow up question- what if I book online, but then call when MS opens to get 24 points from reservation returned and then buy the one time 24??? Hope that makes sense!

Technically no-member services is only supposed to sell the one time use points to book a new reservation not to free up points you already used. You could get lucky but that isn't how it is supposed to work.

Don't think that will work. To get OTU points, you have to buy them when you are making the reservation that will use them. Maybe you can substitute them into an existing reservation, but I'd call MS first to see if that's OK before you proceed with that plan.

That makes sense. I guess OTU points are not the best for hard to get reservations at 7 months. I feel like waiting the extra hour to call MS will be too late.

If doing that I would book what I could with my points online at 8am when the 7 month window opened and then call MS at 9am to add on the last night or two with the one time use points.

I wonder if there is a way around this, assuming you have a few extra points and the days are available.

1. Book the nights you want with your points online to make sure you get what you want.
2. Call MS to get 24 points and add on another day or two to your stay -- on either end (you don't intend to actually use these days, but you're doing this in order to skirt the rule)
3. Ask them to merge the reservation
4. call back later and ask them to remove the previously added day(s)
5. When doing the point allocation -- make sure to confirm that they use the OTU points first.

someone more experienced than I will have to chime in. I've only been a member for 7 months now, and while I do have quite a bit of booking experience already, I am by no means an expert.

Mustinjourney This would work as OTUP's are prioritized over regular allotted vacation points.
