I have 51 points banked for next year, and I have a reservation coming up that I had to borrow points for, i have a march use year. I thought we would make it down next year and it doesnt look like its in the cards. Sure I could rent or transfer those 51 points and there wouldn't be a problem. but I have heard how others have called MS and had there points reinstated. Do you think its worth calling my guide first and explaining how I messed up and if she could fix it? What happened was I had 11 points and banked them. Then my family decided they wanted to go Presidents Week, so I borrowed. Then I did an add-on, 40 points, and they banked them also, so I really would like those 51 banked points taken back and used for the up coming reservation so I have no banked points? What should I do, and who do I call? I have never asked for help like this before, so do they really do a one time thing?

thanks! Im stressing about loosing these points, and the family just cant seem to find a date to go down with other stuff already planned!

Are you sure they BANKED the add on or was the purchase for next UY points? If they are just 08 points you should be able to bank them for 09 or borrow for this year. If they are 07 points and just assumed you wanted to bank them then they just fix it for you so you can use them this year. and return next years to the proper UY. Best bet is to give MS acall and explain everything. Since you did an add-on they should be a little flexible.

I did an add-on 2 weeks ago, got all of 06 points, and 07, (March use year), they said they were banking the 06 points. I will call right now and see what they can do. thanks

Well that was a wasted conversation!!! She said sure she could do that, but the points would go into a holding account!! How do people get there mess ups fixed???? I may just rent the 51 points and be done with it, this is too stressful!

What is fouling you up I think is the closeness of the reservation. If you had done this last week they probably could have straightened it out, but the points that you would be freeing up are within 30 days of the reservation it sounds like so that means that they need to go into holding. This is a circumstance that I don't think I have necessarily seen discussed on these boards. People have been able to get the one time exception, even within 30 days, if they weren't able to take the trip for some emergency reason. In other cases, points have been unbanked when the freed up points would just revert to regular points because of being more than 30 days out. This is a little more complex, IMHO, because you are dealing with banked, borrowed, and, potentially, holding points for a trip that is not being cancelled. Good luck in getting a better resolution.

Usually, exceptions to the rules have been allowing banking past the deadline or leniency regarding an emergency situation. MS certainly does have some latitude when dealing with the specific situations members find themselves in - but in this case, you are talking about points already banked and points already borrowed , all within the last 60 days of your Use Year.

It can't hurt to call you guide and see if they can help, but don't be surprised if you've already gotten your answer. Whenever we have banked or borrowed points, MS has always been very insistent on stating the policy regarding the irreversible nature of those transactions.

Good luck! :)

Ahhhhhh....I missed the last 60 days part. I think this is an unreasonable request since they already gave the OP a break by allowing them to bank those points in the last 60 days of the use year anyway. I suspect the OP has gotten the best answer they can give.

they didnt give me a break - no matter when you do an add-on through DVC, they will bank the points for you, cause if they didn't the sale wouldnt have gone through. Sure its unreasonable, I screwed up, thats the bottom line, I just don't want to loose the points, which is what I will have to do if I can't figure something out. Before I did the add-on last week, I was only talking 11 points, not a big deal, but now with the add-on, its 51 points and too me that is a big deal. I will figure something out

Unfortunately, that is NOT true. We have done several add ons direct through Disney and not been able to bank the points despite pleading desperately to do so (in the worst case, our name came up on the waiting list near the end of our use year and they were adamant that we could not bank the points even though we closed before the end of our use year). They are now allowing it, but it IS cutting you a break any way you look at it and a relaxation of the rules. I still hope it works out for you, but they did already relax the rules to try to help you out by banking the points.

Thats really odd, this has been my third add-on, and banking the points was never an issue? Even the guide said they do it no problem, just call the day they hit the system. I'm looking into an overnight in NYC, so hopefully I can use banked points for that!!

Hope you get your overnight. That sounds like a good use for the banked points. We haven't done an add on since 2004 and I think they started being more liberal after that time. The one we really had a problem with was in 2003. I'm glad they are being more liberal about allowing add on points to be immediately banked. I think it is a win-win and probably doesn't throw things too out of whack (and doesn't throw things out of whack at all for a resort where they are still selling points I would think--all of our add ons have been for sold out resorts). As I said, good luck and I hope things work out for you--and congratulations on your add on!

The "rule" for being allowed to bank points late in your use year when you get an add on must be recent. In '05, January, we did a 50 point add on at BWV and they would not let us bank the points, we too have a March UY. We had requested the add on in December 04, but it didn't come through until the very beginning of January '05. In '06 I was told that I could bank another add on even if the points came through in January or February. The points came through in November or December, and we did bank them.
