Our first day I had planned for DHS w/ lunch @ 1:35pm at Hollywood & Vine (1 preschooler & 1 toddler). Today I also made reservations for the Fantasmic! dinner package at Mama Melrose @ 5:10PM for that same day. Now I'm thinking we're not going to be hungry that early and it will be a waste of a credit (we're on the dinning plan). But I really don't want to wait in line 1 hour+ with 2 young kids for the show. Should I cancel the H&V in favor of dinner and just do a lunch cs instead? Or should I cancel the dinner package and just do cs for dinner and tough out the line? For Fantasmic is the waiting actually standing in line or are you able to go into the stadium and sit? If we can be seated before hand maybe we could bring in our cs dinner and eat while we wait?

We're first timers if ya couldn't tell! LOL

Ok, I don't have children and I've never been to Hollywood and Vine so I don't have top level advice however...

I would cancel the H&V. I've always read stellar reviews of Mama Melrose's and I think they're yummy but lately I haven't heard such great things about H&V.

And I think it's definitely worth it to skip the wait!

Thanks for your advice. We weren't really going to H&V for the food but more for the characters that both the kids would know. This will be their first Disney meal and I wanted to make it a little special. I don't think we'll be able to make it back to this park during our stay so if we want to go there we'd have to go for lunch on that day. I wish they offered the Fantasmic! dinner package!

Have you thought about doing breakfast at H&V. We were there in Dec and were able to get reservations the day before. We had a 6 yo nephew with us who enjoyed the character interaction, and the food was okay.

I personally feel that waiting in the Fantasmic line with two small ones (mine are 6 & 5) is something to avoid if possible. If you haven't already told the kids about the characters at H&V I would book a different character meal on another day & keep the Fantasmic package for the convenience factor. Good luck with your decision!

The character interaction at H&V is awesome!!! My kids (then 23 months and 3.5 yo) loved it!! They went up and danced with JoJo, "Ger-Lion" and the Little Einsteins and had a blast!! As PP said, try breakfast!

We have done dinner at H&V twice and hated it both times. Now, perhaps breakfast is better as you can't really do too much to ruin breakfast food (unless you burn the bacon or something). With two little ones, I would keep the Mama Melrose package...you won't want to stand in line and change H&V to breakfast or try to go to Chef Mickey's or Cape May Cafe for their character breakfast before you go to the Studios.
