One of the best (and least mentioned) features of SSR

Just returned from my trip and really enjoyed touring all of the DVC resorts. I haven't seen any discussion of this but I wanted to share a minor thing that I LOVED about SSR. The hallways! If you hate staying in a room that opens up to the elements but you also hate the stale smell of being on an enclosed hallway, then SSR's hallways are the PERFECT combination! The rooms open up to a hallway that is technically outside but is enclosed enough that it almost feels inside. Loved it!

I know this may not be that big of a deal for some people, but for me, it was just perfect! I'm sensitive to smells. I don't get sick over bad ones but they affect my mood and experience (and memories of a place) greatly. I found the halls at VWL to be very stale and stinky (smelled like trapped poots at times...lol...sorry...just being honest). So going back to the fresh smelling hallways of SSR was always such a pleasure!

Yes, I know this is just minor thing in the overall scheme of things. But it might be important to some people so I thought I'd share.

By the way....I'm the OP on the thread called "SSR is really growing on me" and I just want to say that I really loved SSR a lot....even more so than I expected to. I loved the serene feeling and the beautiful main pool area. High Rock Springs is the PERFECT pool for me and my family. The theme just gave me chill bumps. My only regret is I didn't take time to relax and enjoy the rocking chairs. But I will be back! Oh, and there were about 8 chairs there in case anyone was wondering. I thought I remembered someone mentioning they were down to only 4 at one point.

Loved SSR! And I'm so glad it's easy to get booked into (for now).

Interesting thread. I can't disagree. We love SSR for those wide open spaces! The "hallways" do make for that different feel.

I'm glad you loved your SSR stay and that the hallways are just what you need! There has been a recent thread here about the hallways being slippery when wet, and that would be a big negative for me, since walking is hard for me.
I have not any experience with them being wet so far.

We, too, love SSR. We stayed there for one night last month and remembered once again how great that resort is. OKW is still our favorite, but SSR is second.

We stayed at SSR and we loved it. We found it to be a very reaxing resort. We loved the quiet pool near our villa and also the main pool. We could walk to DTD and the Villa was fantastic. We also had a great view of DTD from our balcony. AKV is home and we love it too, but were pleasantly surprised after reading alot of not so great opinions about SSR that we would be happy to stay there anytime.

The open hallways have always been a plus. I enjoy feeling the outdoors first thing when going for my early morning walk around the resort. :goodvibes

We stayed one night at SSR in January (1-BR), then 6 at OKW and 2 at VWL. (Last minute booking led to multiple resorts, but it was fun to try them out).
I was pleasantly surprised by SSR. The kids LOVED the pool. More fun than either WL pool or OKW. I liked the design and feel of the rooms. Can't imagine doing major cooking for a crowd in a 2-BR - the kitchen was adorable with the farmhouse sink, but there was no counter space.

I agree with OP - I liked the "outdoor" hallways. We were in the paddock section right next to the construction of the new pool, but it was an easy walk to the High Rock Springs pool and the Carriage House.

For a long visit, I think I'd still choose OKW for the points value and added space, but I preferred the theming and overall feel of SSR.

Thank you for posting! We are in the process of adding points on at SSR, and I can't wait to stay there!
I really appreciate you sharing about the "hallways." This seems very appealing to me.

Love SSR and the open hallways...smells bother us too. Our last visit was Jan 2009 and cant wait to go Jan 2012. SSR is so relaxing, not to Disney (after being in the parks all day a girl needs a break). :cheer2:

Me too, We just did an add-on to SSR because it's soo much fun ,and calm and relaxing, close to DTD, and love the waterway,

:goodvibes
I love the cut out windows in the hallways at SSR. If you notice, they are different shapes, like picture frames and they frame the scenic surroundings perfectly. I have several pics like this and they look like framed artwork:wizard:

I too am a fan of the hallways. Love the fresh air, especially when some leave their garbage there instead of taking it to the Trash Room. The garbage in the halls with carpet just make the biggest mess and ruins the carpet and the smells at time are just horrible.

We have never had problems with them being slick.

I'm fine with the open hallways, but the hallway floors are hideously ugly and one of my least favorite things about SSR.

SSR is our all-time favorite. We've been staying there since it was the Disney Villas, and then Disney Institute. Personally, I love the walk to DTD, the Artist Palette/store, the Turf Club lounge and outdoor eating area and the SPA/Fitness Center. It's got it all. :thumbsup2

We own 3 contracts at BCV and 1 at HH and really like both resorts. However, we have stayed at SSR twice and LOVED it there. The resort is beautiful and a nice change from the hustle bustle of BCV. Also, the rugs in the hallways at BCV are stained and ugly. This resort gets so much use, and it often looks dilapidated to me. Anyway, I agree that SSR is a great resort.

We love SSR especially during Spring Break. The hallways are nice but have two drawbacks. First they get wet. Second the bugs by the lights.

One of the great things about the hallways - we took my son and a friend of his that are great singers and appear in lots of plays and concerts and things. You guessed it! Echoes when they sang! (Hope they didn't disturb anyone, but I loved it!)

I think its the open hallways that help keep the rooms so quiet. And thats a great thing when the kids are trying to sleep.

I love SSR and OKW because they are like a house. A single family house doesn't have a hallway to the front door. Both resorts really feel like home to me because I park my car and open my front door. Welcome Home!!!
