One Night Dining Plan?

Someone recommended splitting up your hotel reservation into two stays. One for one night and then the remainder of your time on the next reservation. They said that this way you could get the mugs if you purchased the dining plan for that one night reservation. Wouldn't the mugs only be good for that one night and not the remainder of your stay? I don't see the advantage of doing this. Does anyone see something that I am missing?

They say the mugs are good for the length of stay, but in reality they are activated for 14 days. So they will be good for the remainder of your trip.

There's a chance you could have to move rooms though. Is the use of the dining plan and not having to pay for mugs, though you are paying for them in the dining plan, worth the hassle if you have to move rooms?

I love to save a buck where I can...but in this situation, I'd just buy the mugs without messing with the DDP and a split stay.

Enjoy your vacation!

I did this back in Sept. We were staying at AS Sports and decided to add an extra night at the beginning. No availability at Sports so we booked movies for one night with the dining plan and were able to use our mugs the whole stay. We had to switch rooms (and resort) anyway so it wasn't a big deal. We used the table dining credit for our meal at Coral Reef and all our snack credits at F&W so we did come out slightly ahead even without factoring in the cost of the mugs.

Thank you for sharing that! We are going in August on a split stay (we had booked through Priceline for 4 nights, then when FD came out we added days under the promo to the front of our trip). I've been wondering if the mugs would be good the whole 8 nights we are there!

We have done this. We got the deluxe for one night and split it with another family. We ate at HDDR and Crystal Palace and had enough snack credits and mugs for both families to use (my kids mostly just drink water, so they didn't all need mugs, and the other family only had a 1 year old so their child also didn't need a mug for anything). We saved a bunch of money this way, and as confirmed upthread the mugs are good past the first stay. We were switching from the FW Cabins to AKV anyhow, so no big deal about changing rooms.
We are doing this again in Aug at a tent site, so I'm hoping we won't have to move. But considering the hundreds I'm saving on dining, it will be worth it. I plan on talking to the front desk the first day to make sure we can stay on the same site. If they think we have to move, we will only partially set up camp.

The one night dining plan is to me the only time I want the deluxe as you don't have to do 3 table service in a single day. You get until the end of the second day to use them.

That works out really well for the deluxe dining plan so you can spread out your TS meals.

My daughter and I do that and split our TS lunches since you get an app entree and dessert so it is plenty of food for two, then we each use an entitilemet for dinner. Two days worth of TS meals for the cost of one day...mugs are good for the entire trip and a few snacks too!

I hate to bump an old thread- but I have a question about a one day dining plan.

We just got upgraded from CSR to Beach Club (!) for the first night of our stay. It’s a split stay, going to All-Star Movies the next day.

We arrive around 6:30 PM on Sunday to Beach Club and I have ADRs for Cape May in the AM on Monday. We are one adult, and two children (6 and 9).

Would this work? We’d have a snack at Beach Club upon arrival and then a character breakfast and a snack for lunch?
Without going into a park, is there any place special in YC/BC, Boardwalk, etc to “spend” our credits in a good way? (I’m brand new to any thought of a dining plan)

Calculate the price of the plan and see if you would come out ahead

I think we would. Cape May is $96, less 20% for the AP I believe.
Adult: 42 Child 27
The DP is 78 (adult) and 30.51 Child.
So, the DP would be $139 for us (plus tip at Cape May).

Cape May alone would be 76.80 plus tip. If I had a mimosa or bloody Mary (likely I’d say!) that would be another $11 or so, so figure $87ish. I’m guessing that even a small snack/drink would make up the difference between the $139 meal plan total and the $52.

I’ve never been to the Beach Club area, and would not be going to a park on arrival night or the next day. So we’d have our QS upon arrival somewhere at BC, and then have our character breakfast and our snacks in the area at BW or BC/YC I would guess. I just have no idea on where/what yet!

We did plan lunch at Beaches and Cream, but I could definitely make that an OOP since it’s considered TS.

So you would get the regular dining plan? That gets you a counter service, a table service & 2 snacks each for a 1 night stay. Cape May breakfast would be a good use of your table service. You could use the counter service at Movies for dinner. You may not want lunch after the big breakfast. There are lots of things to use the snack credits for. Beach Club Marketplace has fruit cups, packaged snacks, cupcakes. Boardwalk Bakery has cupcakes or pastries. You can get take out ice cream from Beaches & Cream. Plus lots of snack options at Movies too. If you spend the day swimming at BC before moving, there is a counter service Hurricane Hannah’s there. And BC Marketplace has counter service potions too. I think you’d make out OK, especially if you can use the refillable mug at Movies too.

I don’t think we’ll be at movies until much later in the day (like after 7 PM or so), but those are great ideas!
I think we’ll be hungry upon arrival, so I was thinking of using the QS credits that day, the TS at Cape May, and the snacks somewhere around BC/YC. I like your ideas- thank you so much!
I had forgotten about the refillable mugs- but that’s an added bonus!

I think we will get the regular dining plan- now the question is how to add it to the one reservation?

Sorry to hijack...we are doing a campsite...Can you buy a deluxe meal plan for one night when staying there? I already booked it but haven’t bought tickets (going to purchase later through third party). How do you add the dining plan to an existing night?

You cannot do it for an existing night without splitting your reservation. You call asking for a ticketless package to be added. I think Guest Services had to do it.

We just stayed 12 nights at FW with one night on deluxe in the middle. I had 3 separate reservations for a tent site. I brought it up at check in and they had no issues keeping us on our site for the whole stay and I didn't have to go back to the check in desk.

We used our one night deluxe over two days. We shared our credits (i.e. used 3 credits for 5 ppl) to stretch it to cover 4 meals instead of just 3. The refillable mugs lasted our whole stay (so I imagine the full 14 nights).

Our first meal was 11am lunch at Homecomin' - we were insanely overstuffed with 3 credits. We were too full for my planned afternoon snacks. Then 8pm dinner at Ohana. My mother was still so full and it was late so she barely ate. The rest of us ate but weren't hungry at the beginning.

Next day was 11am at Morimoto. I was even thinking of switching to a signature meal because I was so full! We used 4 credits here for 5 ppl (upgraded one entree to a 2 credit dish). Then 7pm dinner at Raglan Rd where we again shared 3 credits between 5 ppl. So full we ate only 2.5 entrees and only some dessert so had some take out boxes.

We still made room for 4 giant ice creams at Ghiradellis at 11pm lol. That was 4 out of our 10 snack credits. I used 2 to buy snacks for a friend's kid. Then 1 more credit to buy a Star Wars coke bottle for my son. 3 more snack credits went to candy the kids ate over the rest of the trip. We didn't need it to fill up/replace a meal like I had anticipated - even with my DS17 and my DD18 who eats small portions frequently.

Was surprised to be so defeated even with our strategic use of DxDDP!

I have two reservations- and since it’s an upgrade for one night to Beach club, that is why I’m considering it.

I think I’ll probably add the regular plan for our one night. That would be a fun thing for us- having a Cape May breakfast, being able to just get dinner, and not worry about any cost to us.

I have a throwaway campsite booked...which I know is a debated thing and some people frown upon it. I really wish I could book a cabin and have my kindergartener sleep on an air mattress but it’s not allowed. We have five young kids so seven people total. 😞 $700-$1000 per night for the two bedroom villas that accommodate us is not in my budget. Connecting rooms is never guaranteed and it would ruin my vacation to be separated at night from half my family and my husband. Anyway...I would like to add the plan to my one night but just wasn’t sure how to do it.

Hi, can you tell me what apps you had at Raglan Road using the DxDDP? I have asked on these forums before, but no one seems to know what's eligible.

Our family of 7 stayed at a 2 bedroom villa by renting DVC points, it was the same cost as 2 moderate rooms.
