We(dh & I) took our docs to check in at the Port and were told by the CM that our birth certificates were NOT acceptable even though they have a raised seal. She had to fill out a special form and told us that birth certificates issued by hospitals and not the actual state vital records are no longer accepted. So now that we know, we will have to contact vital stats from our respective states before our next cruise and get those official docs!

I never knew the hospital ones WERE accepted!
It's always been "STATE certified copy" with raised seal!
Glad you were able to get on especially since they are so strict about it after 9/11!

both times we have cruised...one being pre 9/11 and one being post 9/11 these were excepted...

I have state issued birth certificates and they have the raised seal, but the seal is barely obvious. In fact, you really have to look at the back side to see the seal! Will this be acceptable?

Yes! As long as it's a "state certified copy" it'll be fine. You can hardly see mine either and I've never had a problem!

My mom has only her hospital birth certificate it does have a raised seal, but to be safe we are going to get another one from the state. Is it easier just to go to the court house and apply for a new one? Or is there some where on the net you can go for the state of Illinios?

Vicnmickey, try www.vitalcheck.com . They are very fast and many folks have used them to get certified copies of their birth certificates. :)

I just had to use vitalcheck a week or so ago. What I used to cruise and fly 4x's with after Sept 11 last year wasnt what is needed for DCL. What I had said "birth cert has been filed for" and there are immunization dates listed on the bottom.
I called vitalcheck and they fedex my b.c. for about $35. They say 5-10days but I believe I had mine in less than 4.

Got it, printed out the form for mom. Thank you, one less thing to have to worry about. Hopefully it won't take 5 months to get:eek:

I cannot locate my son's birth certificate. I know I can obtain one with a raised seal from the town clerk's office and they said that it is the one I will need for all legal purposes, to include cruising, and that it will be on State of Vermont stationary. I just wanted to make sure it is what I need, since technically it is town issued.

Talk about waiting until the last minute!
