Hoping someone here can shed some light here for me....

We take our annual vacation every year at the holidays. My husband is thinking abt purchasing DVC in the summer (most likely resell) -- my fear is will we have time to book for the holidays? Can someone explain how this works in "laymans" say we buy Bay Lake? I know we can book 11 months out but do we get any pref 6 or 7 months out?

You might get into BLT at the 6 or 7 month window depending on what time of year and what size. You will have GREAT luck getting into other resorts at the 7 month window too. Also, depending on what time of year. SSR SEEMS TO ALWAYS have rooms available.

christmas and new years will be the time of year...thats the problem, the busiest week......

Once you hit 7 months, you'll have no booking preference

hence probably sells out quickly during christmas/new years i am assuming. we have rented but i feel like gotten lucky past couple years.

Your ability to book BLT during the holiday season after purchasing this summer is a toss-up, leaning toward hard to swing. However, as another poster mentioned, chances are you can find something (particularly SSR or perhaps AKL) though you may have to cobble together a couple of different resorts (AKA split stay).

Getting into BLT could be a problem for 2015 if you can't book until 5 or 6 months ahead of time, but you will be able to book 11 months prior for subsequent years.

If you decide to purchase, buying BLT resale rather than direct from Disney will save you a lot of money. Don't base your decision on whether or not you can get a reservation for 2015.

Also remember (assuming you pass ROFR) it can take 60-90 days to close on a resale contract and be able to book a visit, so really you would need to buy resale now to have any hope of staying there during the holidays next year. Even then availability will not be guaranteed because that is a high demand period and you will have missed the opening of the 11 month window. I agree do not base the decision on getting a 2015 reservation, even if you could make an offer now on a resale contract.
