I apologize for asking too many questions here. My 8 year old DD just started wearing glasses. Are there rides where she shoulf take them off? She's supposed to wear them all the time but I sure don't want them flying off on a ride.

Yep, just lost my sunglasses last month on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (I know, I know, I heard the warning . . . .)

I'd also take them off on Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Screamin, Grizzly River Rapids, and ToT and maybe even Indy.

I wear glasses and I only take them off on Screamin'. I have not been on ToT though. I've never had a problem on any ride in DL. Another option though, if you are worried, is to get those band thingys that attached to the ear pieces and go around the back of the head and can be adjusted, usually with some sort of bead. I've seen them at Target in the jewelry/sunglasses department. I used to use one when I was a kid when I went to amusement parks.

there's an important distinction to be made here.

sunglasses are usually off the rack and not fitted. they tend to be susceptible to being tossed.

prescription eyeglasses are usually fitted and aren't cause for concern on any disney attraction.

that said, if you want to play it safe, you can get croakies or eyeglass straps that will keep them on. between that option and not wearing them at all, she'll probably enjoy the straps more.

I second the glasses strap. When I wore glasses, I always wore the straps on all rides. Never lost them ever. Thank goodness for contacts though, I don't think I could handle glasses for the rest of my life. :lmao:

I didn't have any problems with my glasses. I just made sure they were positioned properly before any rides started especially on Screamin. I would recommend the glasses straps as an extra precaution though.

Both DH and ds wear glasses and take them off on a few different rides. Like Screamin, Space Mountain, I want to say DS takes his off for Splash but not sure if he does that anymore.

I agree that fitted prescription glasses come off harder then just sun glasses, but I think it's still better to be safe about it.

My DD8 has been wearing specs since she was 2. We had her take off her glasses for Screaming and space mountain. That was it. The firsttime she went on screaming she had her glasses on and they stayed on but I was soooo paranoid the whole ride that I didn't enjoy the ride I was to busy being concerned about the glasses that they came off every time after that.

My son wears glasses too, and he hasn't lost them on any ride. If you are worried, I would by the straps to make sure! :)
