We are driving out to Anaheim from nw Oklahoma on July 15th or 16th. I thought I told my wife to get the three day hopper but she got the two day hoppers instead so I definately need to know the best way to upgrade to another day if we want and need to.....

Also, what is this Magic Morning business and how do you take advantage of that? I have read alot on this board but I still haven't figured out alot of the speak that goes on around here. Do we even qualify for the MM?

We went last year and just winged it and actually enjoyed our one day there and got to take in most the rides we wanted to and even enjoyed fantasmic(sp) but this year I am wanna be able to slow down and enoy the park more and still get in what I wanna get in.

Now, fastpasses, last year a kind lady gave us a few fastpasses that we used on splash mountain, other than flat out purchasing fastpasses are there other ways to get these passes?

I've also read about hidden passaged in the castle and whatnot and not sure it even is necessary but I am curious of hidden things I might really enjoy. So if any of you have little tidbits to throw in I would appreciate it.

I also cannot recall what time the park opens up but I am guessing 9am?

We stayed at the super8 last year and will again this year and I am sure they will have some of this info but since joining this board I feel like I might have missed alot of things.

Crazy how I felt in control last year, spent one day at the park and felt like we accomplished most everything we wanted to. Now I am nervous, afraid I won't get to do the rides I want to and worried about where I will stand for the light shows. Thanks alot DIS :D

You can upgrade them right at the ticket booth when there. You will need to do this BEFORE using your last day on the ticket. I am not sure you can do it online.

Are you staying on site? If so, you will get a MM each day it is offered. If not, you will need the 3 day park hopper to qualify for 1 MM.

The best strategy is to get there at park opening before the majority of the crowds. Take a break or do shows in the afternoons and then return to riding later in the evening.

Fast passes are not sold. They are given for certain rides. For a complete list check out the DLR site. There may also be a sticky above explaining fast pass in detail.

That depends on when you are going and which park. Summer hours for July are 8am - midnight. But hours are different in the slower season.

Enjoy your trip and planning!

Fastpasses are free. You get them at certain rides and can come back later to ride. You don't need to pay! You just use your ticket to get them. (slide it in, fastpass pops out)

I guess I was mis informed on the fastpasses. :)

I just never expect anything to be free. lol

Magic Morning is a perk you get with a 3 day or longer pass (or by staying at one of Disney's hotels which you are not). Currently, Magic Mornings are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You get to enter Disneyland one hour early one of those days. For Magic Morning, most of Fantasyland and parts of Tomorrowland are open.

During the summer, Disneyland will be open 8 AM - midnight each day. Disney California Adventure will be open 10 AM - 10 PM each day. At DCA though, they actually start letting people through the gates at 9:30 AM. Historically, Soarin' has been the only ride open at that time. Last summer though, Grizzly River Run also opened early. I think I've read that this year Little Mermaid is open before park opening. I don't know though if they are restricting entry to resort hotel guests until 10 AM or if anyone can line up after 9:30 AM.

Fastpasses are a free service you get with your admission media. Many of the bigger ticket rides have fastpass machines. You use your tickets in the machines to obtain a fastpass. The fastpass has a return window for that particular ride printed on it. You can actually ride the ride anytime that day after the window opens up, so don't throw out those fastpasses just because the you're past the printed end time. You cannot use the fastpass though before the start time. There is a great thread somewhere on this board about how to use fastpass. Search for it. Rides in Disneyland that have fastpass are Star Tours, Space Mountain, Roger Rabbit, Big Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Splash Mountain. Rides in DCA that have fastpass are Soarin', Grizzly, Goofy's Sky School (when it reopens, which it should by the time you go), California Screamin', and Tower of Terror. You also need to obtain a fastpass if you want to see the World of Color. Search for the WoC thread if you're interested in that.

My girls and I did the castle walk-through. The entrance was near the BBB (on the Fantasyland side of the castle). It was nice, different and uncrowded (the entrance isn't the easiest thing to find).

We are 62,28, and 6 all females. We had a super time. We stayed across the street at the Carousel Inn. We are from the East so early mornings were a breeze for us. If you get to the park as early as is humanly possible you should be able to quite a bit in a short time. Remember Peter Pan is always first (I repeat alwasy first). We always when back to the hotel midday for a break (easy since we were only a hop, skip and a jump away. We found we could ride many of the regularly long line rides during the parade (which happens twice a day)
If you have a little girl, I highly recommend a reserved breakfast with Ariel.
Our little one was sure all the princesses live at Dl and now she is positive.
They all paid attention and gave her close up attention.
Ditto for Rapunzel- she was worth the wait.
Ditto if you can one of the 1st into Pixie Hollow- Spending time with Tinkerbell first thing in the morning keeps you in fairy dust the whole day through.
Just a few comments. Get FP, Get FP, Get FP wherever you can, whenever you you can. Most of the FP machines are not standing out in the open with a big sign over them...instead of wasting time looking for them ask a CM the location. HInt Hint...you can not get FP for Grizzly Run until all the FP for WOC are almost sold out (sometime around 12:00) they both use the same FP machines.
We were not willing to play the WOC color hurry up, wait, hurry up, hustle, hurry up barge in and then hurry more to stand in front. So we chose Fantasmic- we chose the dessert package preferred seating 8:00 show which was fabulous. We were then invited to stay seated for the fireworks. We could see both Dumbo and Tinker flying through the air.
We were not into Star Tours, Screamin, or the Haunted Mansion.
We loved the Aladdin Show in the Backlot Area. A broadway quality show.
Remember to get there early but let all the orchestra seats go ahead of you and wait for the mezzanine seats to line up. If you don't you will absolutely miss the highlight of the show.
Have a supertime- I have maps if you need them.

Alice in Wonderful and some other characters play musical chairs with kids at Coke Corner at 2:30. It's not on an official schedule, but all the DISboards folks seem to know about it! Sounds like a fun thing to do.

You can look at maps on the Disneyland website. They list all the rides, shops and restaurants and you can choose to look at only rides, only shops or only restaurants as well as learn about each individual ride (great for rides you've never been on!) Super helpful if you want to plan out your day instead of zig zagging across the park.

Also, there is a schedule and park hours on the DL website. Right now, it shows schedules and hours through August.

One more little question. Last year on space mountain I got motion sickness a little and then we went and rode big thunder and it made me nausiated(sp).

Same with rides like the simpsons.

So, is there something you can take to prevent the pukes on ill feelings on those type rides?

They do have motion sickness medications out there for people to take. My dad usually packs some Bonine or Dramamine with him when he goes to the parks because he gets really bad motion sickness. I would talk to your doctor and see what he may recommend for motion sickness. But there is medication you can take.

There is a prescription called transdermscop. My son takes it all the time for motion sickness. Some people complain that it makes them tired but has never had that effect on him. Garlic works for some along with the previous listed.

If you don't want to take medication, you might try Sea-Bands. These bands fit around your wrists and use acupressure to relieve nausea. They are sold at Walgreens and CVS for maybe $10 or $11.
