I am contracting right now with Disney. They are stating that I can back date by use year till September 2006. Should I do this and if so, why? vs. December?

These situations can be unique so it wont hurt to ask your guide,
but what I gather is that right now DVC is offering you a September UY. That means you would receive a full allotment of Sept 2006 points right now. You could use those points or bank them to next year. You would only pay dues from now until Dec 31, 2006 for that full year of points.

Next Sept 2007 you will receive another full allotment of points.

Are they offering you Dec? December would work the same way, you would get a full allotment of points on Dec 1 and another set next Dec. If December is sold out for the current inventory, they may not offer it to you.

UY is important based on the time of year you will most likely travel. For example, do you plan to visit every year in Sept. or Oct.? If so, then a Sept. UY is better for you (once you understand banking and borrowing, this will be clear as to why...there are several threads about this right now).

If you plan to travel most often in Dec. - Feb., then go with the Dec. UY.

FWIW, I think it is great that you are asking all of your questions here in these threads. However, I think you have more research to do before you commit. Good luck and I hope to be able to welcome you home soon. :goodvibes

When we toured at the end of Nov. we were told they were given out Oct. use years, I asked about other months because we thought we would probably plan trips for April, so the guide told us we could also pick Dec. When I called to finalize things on Dec 4th, we received our points as of Dec 1st. And then we will get more points every year on Dec 1st.

I don't see why we would want, when buying, to get a use year dated back several months... wouldn't we have to pay the maintenance fees for all those months, when we hadn't had any use of the points? That sounds like extra $$ for nothing.

No, they pro-rate the dues soyou don't pay for the months when you weren't even owners.

That date refers to the initial points that you get with your purchase. So a "Sep '06" contract comes with Sep '06 UY points. Dues are pro-rated from your purchase date. So in this case if someone purchased a Sep '06 contract today, they would owe about 1/24th of the annual dues, but would get the full set of Sep '06 points so "backdating" is a good thing!

Can you still get an Oct. UY with 06 points--even with the F&F promo?
