Found out today that we may have an opportunity to go to Disney for a day next week. Haven't done any planning. We would be driving in from about two hours away. Any tips on planning just a one day trip at this late notice? I'm sure all the big name fast passes are taken. Thanks for any advice/input.

Hey, cool! How lucky for you! I hope you have an awesome time. If that were me, I would use Touring Plans and create a custom touring plan for the day. I have had mostly good luck with their plans, and I usually do use them especially when I have just one day. Have fun!

Thanks for the responses. It's for my husband and myself, my 2 daughters age 4 and 7, and dad and stepmom. We took a trip with our girls in December to Disney. My dad hasn't been to Disney in 20+ years.
Would you try to get any dining reservations with just one day? We have eaten at Be Our Guest but that's the only dining reservations we have had in MK (and I know that would be an almost impossible reservation to get).

No I don't think we would make it by then. We still would try to get there relatively early. I'm ok with that since we had 3 days of MK in December but I still want to maximize our time (and especially hit the highlights for my dad since it's been so long since he's been there).

with a two hour drive, you won't be able to take advantage of rope drop, correct?
I drive about 4 hours away I check in at the hotel and I still make it to rope drop for a 9 am opening you just have to have a plan to get there at RD ( I have also done this a number of times for a day trip)

dependding on the number of people in your group you might get soaring FP

I would say prioritize and relax! Since you were there not long ago, have everyone in the family pick one show or attraction that's a must-see and focus on those. Also don't give up on FP's - I had good luck getting last minute ones for most things.

If it were my family, I would also avoid any sit-down meals and just rest and eat when you're tired. It's amazing how far a soft pretzel will go!

Have a great time! Sometimes the last-minute trips are great adventures!

I am leaving Thursday for a 48 hour trip with some friends. I was able to get Fps today
