Original plan: Wilderness Lodge on a bounceback Dec. 18-26.
MK for EMH on the 26th, then check out at 11 am, drive 2 hours, visit sis and her hubby, drive 2 hours. Spend one night at Holiday Inn - $140
27th - 14 hour drive home.

New plan: Keep Wilderness Lodge for Dec. 18-26. No availability on the bounceback for 12/26. Wilderness Lodge for one night would be $520 + tax. Art of Animation is $199.
Check out on the 26th, move to a Little Mermaid room, and stay one night. Get full day at the parks.
Check out on the 27th, 14.5 hour drive home.

(Tell sis they can drive to Orlando if they want to visit us. We're already driving 1000 miles each way, they can drive the last bit. They have Universal season passes, so they do the drive often.)

Bonus: For $60 more, we get 8 hours more park time, and the Ariel-loving kid gets a surprise, since she's unaware that Mermaid rooms exist.

Downside: Moving resorts. But I think we should be able to pack a little bag for one night.

Opinions please? We've never switched at Disney, but we'll have a car to move our stuff. And we'd have been in a hotel that night anyway.

We LOVE one night split stays...In August we are checking into AKL for one night, then our timeshare at the Sheraton Vistana Villages for 9 nights, during those 9 nights we are also spending a night at the Polynesian, so we just have to pack an overnight bag.

Both nights are surprises for the kids!

Being able to see the different resorts is so much fun, kids love the different pools.

I think you'll have a blast!

I think that sounds like a great idea. We made a similar choice for this trip, choosing to add a 1 day split stay at AoA to our BC trip. The extra packing/unpacking will be a small price to pay for that extra day in the parks! ::MinnieMo

I'm going on my fourth split stay in Sept., first time with just one night. I'm starting mine off with the first night at ASSp then moving over to YC for 4 nights. I drive down and get there around 2, going solo so it just didn't make sense for me to spend the $300 for the first night at YC (I have AP discount) for those few hours when I could spend $80 something at ASSp. I just pack two bags for split stays, which is no problem when you are driving. A little one for that first night (or two) so don't have to repack. I use a hanging toiletry bag so I just transfer that from bag one to bag two when get my car to move to the 2nd resort. Easy/ peasy.

We have done split stays at the beginning and in the middle of a trip, but never at the end. It seems like it would be easier. You pack as if you are going home but leave one days worth of clothes on top for the extra day.

We are doing a 3 way split in August 1st night at AoA cars suite then 7 nights at AKL Kidani, then 1 night at a cabin at Ft. Wilderness. It will be interesting!

We did a 1 night split in March - 1 night POR, then 6 nights BLT. It was great and the kids loved getting to see 2 resorts (read: pools).

I just got back from a stay like that.

I did 6 nights at Pop Century and the final night at Wilderness Lodge. I couldn't afford to stay at Wilderness Lodge the entire stay but I could afford the 1 night. It was absolutely amazing. As Buckeyebama said. Pack as if you are going home and put the final stuff on top for the final night. I really enjoyed doing it and we didn't even have a rental car. It was absolutely amazing to go from a value to a deluxe. And since Wilderness Lodge speaks to me on so many levels it made that final day extra special.

I am going back in December and plan to spend the first night at Wilderness Lodge and the rest at Pop if there is room discounts for the first week of December.

With your own car it would make a split stay , especially the last day, easy breezy!! You can just leave some of your stuff that you won't need the last night packed in your vehicle.

Thanks all! :) We're doing it, and kiddo will have a big Ariel surprise!
