We are planning on visiting Universal, but we will be staying on Disney property. Is one day worth it/enough for myself and DS5?

Based on your DS height, that may rule out quite a few attractions for you. If you are only going for 1 day, I would recommend Express Pass as well, which can make it a very pricy day. If you have the option to make one of your hotel stays at one of the 3 hotels that offer EP, it may be more cost effective.
As much as I love UO, I think 5 may be a little young unless he REALLY likes rides, and you may have a much more enjoyable trip in 3-5 years when he can experience a little bit more.

Have a look at the website www.universalorlando.com You'll find park maps and layouts there.

Check out what each park has to offer you......check out height limitations you may encounter there. With your sons age I wouldn't suggest doing Park to park. Choose one park and stick there.

If there's enough to pass your day and your son has things to do, then no reason not to........but it's a lot of money for one day if he has too many restrictions on rides.

Yes it is enough if you are at the gate at opening time, I'm assuming you're interested on both Harry Potters lands and that's the reason to have park-to-park, start your day at Universal do HP ride the Hogward express tour HP and for your 5 yr old do Dr Seuss land, SpiderMan and the Jurasic ride of the flying Dino, ride back on HE to universal and do buy Express pass its worth it when touring for one day, Universal have more rides for young children than Island of adventure

Actually, he will be six when we go. He is five now, but we will be there at the end of August, and he turns five at the end of May. He really, really wants to do the Terminator ride, believe it or not! That is what he keeps asking me for! So maybe just Universal and not Islands of Adventure. Is one for six-year-old friendly than the other?

It really depends more on his height than his age as to what he is allowed to do. Based on his height, what will he be unable to ride?

Terminator is more of a show like Shrek 4D. You sit in a big theater. The seats do move a bit but it's not really a ride. Does he mean Transformers? That is a ride and it has really good CGI.

No. He means Terminator. He will love a Terminator show. He is obsessed with Terminator. He is 44 inches tall, so it looks like he will be able to ride quite a bit. The rides that say over a certain height but with an adult have me a bit concerned. I am wondering why some height requirements say they can ride over a certain height but only with an adult.

The reasoning for this is that if the ride gets stuck and you have to be evacuated. They want a responsible companion to be there with the young child.
