One Day in DL

Hi all!. Will be in DL on Sunday, July 8. arriving around 10ish. Any advice on what to do first. We will have only the day and will be leaving on Monday. We are staying at the Fairfield Inn. We are WDW addicts, but can not pass up the opportunity to visit DL on our trip to San Diego. We are not doing DCA, just DL. OK, let the advice begin!!

My advice:

1) Definitely plan to stay for the fireworks - they are awesome!!

2) Plan to watch the parade it is awesome too!

first thing grab FP for Indy, then as soon as possible SM. Then ASAP Pirates.These are great rides that should not be missed. Not to be missed that does not have FP are Alice and Mr. Toad, and Pinnochio. These should be fairly quick waits (20 minutes or less). Tom Sawyer island, original Tiki room, and IASW would round out my "must sees" for a WDW visitor.

I would try and get here earlier than 10. If you enter at 10, the park will have been open for 2 hours already and FPs will be taken for good times and lines will already be long. I highly discourage going riding Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. It's not because it's a bad ride, but more of the line will already be at least 2 hours once you get there.

Definitely grab a FP for Space and Splash as soon as possible. You can grab a FP for Roger Rabbit anytime because it is disconnected from the system. Hit the high capacity rides in the afternoon such as Haunted Mansion, PotC, Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear, and even Big Thunder (although BTMRR has an outdoor line and could be hot in the summer).

Definitely do the things that Judy said! (Though I'd skip "small world", and just enjoy the clock show that happens every 15 minutes instead.) I'd also recommend getting a Fastpass for Roger Rabbit - last I heard that attraction wasn't networked with the rest of the Fastpass machines so you can hold simultaneous FPs for Roger and any other FP attraction. Toontown itself is worth a look - MUCH better than the MK version, in my opinion. I also like Storybook Land Canal Boats, but that tends to have a pretty long line.

If the lines are long and it's hot and you need a break, see "Disneyland...The First 50 Magical Years" in the Opera House on Main Street. The Disneyland Railroad could be interesting - the part that is significantly different at DL is the route from the Tomorrowland Station to Main Street - that's where the Grand Canyon and Primeval World dioramas are.

Try not to be too disappointed by our tiny little castle... When you look at it up close it's actually beautifully painted and detailed, and Snow White's Wishing Well and Grotto next to it (on the right as you face the castle) is a pleasant little area.

Have a great time! And hope you enjoy San Diego - that's where I live. The weather has been absolutely perfect here for the last couple of weeks, so hopefully that will continue during your visit!

Thanks for the advice! I wish we could get there earlier, but we don't arrive from San Diego by train until 9:04, and we have to dump our stuff at the hotel. I definately was excited about Mr. Toad! I used to love that ride at WDW! How is Pinochio's different? Since Pirates is one of my fav, i will do that, and probably the pirate's lair, it sound really neat!

Thanks for the good wishes, ScooterL! I am looking forward to San diego. I have a convention at the manchester grand hyatt. When I realized how close DL was, I couldn't pass up the opportunity! I might never get it again. I can't wait to see your castle. I'm sure it's beautiful!!

I've wondered that in the past too. However, I've noticed that on these boards, SM usually means Space Mtn, and people usually say "Splash" for Spl Mtn.

I could be wrong, of course!

How is Pinochio's different?

There's no Pinocchio ride at WDW. Also you should definitely ride Indiana Jones. It is my favorite ride there and unique to the DLR, although Dinosaur at AK and Indy at TDR are similar with a different theme.

SM is Space mountain, I would not reccomend riding Splash, as i think the WDW version is better. I put Pirates at the top of the list because "you know what" happens, and it would be a shame for it to breakdown etc. No need to FP, but get it done early. I believe that the new title is "Pirates lair at Tom Sawyer island"? Please forgive me but i will continue to call it TSI. I also purposfully call the TTA the "Peoplemover", and refer to "the sky buckets" etc. I guess i will claim the rank that goes along with being old.

I'm with ya Judy! the "Wedway" or the peoplemover is one of our family favs. We ride it many times during our stays! The one thing we didn't like was when they put more lights in SM (space, that is!!) and you could actually see the tracks. somehow, it's just not right!
