We might be visiting the Nevada/California area some time soon...what would you do if you only had one day in Disneyland? We've been to WDW once...we were thinking of adding park hopper and going in to DCA quick in the morning and going on Soarin' (favorite ride at WDW) and then walk over to enjoy Disneyland for the rest of the day.

What would you do with one day in Disneyland resort?

Watch fantasmic and the fireworks show.

In DCA:
Mullhulland Madness (really short line)
Soarin` over California
Tower of Terror
If you have time, watch the Aladin show in the Hollywood section, it's a great show.
Monster, Inc. is alright ride, if you have little kids who love the show, it's pretty cool.

in DLR:
Pirates of the Carribean
Haunted Mansion
Big Thunder Mountain
Mr Toads Wild Ride
Space Mountain
Indiana Jones

Unfortunately, Matterhorn is down for refurbishment but that is a great ride as well.

If you have little kids with you, make sure you take a trip to Toontown and go on the roller coaster there, it's small and fun for little kids.
Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin is fun also for kids.
Mr Toads, Peter Pan, and Dumbo are also kind of fun for kids.

Oh and if you like Soarin, try Star Tours in Tomorrowland, it's along the same lines.

Hey Disneyworldwisher!!

I just moved here from Buffalo... Glad I missed that snow storm!!

IF you only had one day at DL..

I'd suggest doing the things that aren't at both parks.. Meaning WDW and DL..

ALso the ones that might be the same but aren't.

Pirates... So good!
SM
HM- much different than WDW.
Small World.. Much better
Indy
Tiki room
Buzz

Thses are just waht come to my head first. As I have been to both parks and these are the rides I like better at DL.

Hve fun planning and I'll keep thinking!

You really are glad you missed the storm...it was so eerie, you could hear all the tree branches cracking. The power went out for 5 days!

But anyway, what do you people think about our Soarin' plan? And should we bother with the rest of DCA?

If I had one day with a park hopper... here are my DEFINATE NOT MISS DAILY THINGS!

DCA:

- Soarin'
- Animation theature LOTS TO DO IN THERE (Turtle talk with Crush, overdub your voices to disney movies, learn how to draw in disney, and find out which disney character you are most like etc)
- A bugs life 3D show
- Tower of Terror
- A Muppets 3D show

Disneyland:
- Pirates is a MUST
- Haunted mansion is a MUST
- Splash Mountain is a MUST
- Peter Pan
- Space Mountain
- Honey I shrunk the audience
- Toontown
- Buzz Lightyear Astro blasters
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Everyone has made good suggestions on what rides would be a must do.

I just want to add that if you go with the park hopper and try to see both parks, start in Disneyland. It opens earlier than California Adventure. Spend a few hours in DL, then hop over to DCA, finally come back to DL for the evening shows.

I haven't been on Soarin in WDW yet, so I don't know if there are any differences, but since you know you like it, go for it. And I'd also do Tower of Terror, it is different than the Florida version. And don't miss CA Screamin and Monsters Inc. I think you can miss the rest of DCA unless you have extra time. Oh, almost forgot about the Aladdin musical. That's anothe must do.

Thanks for the tips...most of the stuff like bug life, Soarin', TOT, muppets, and animation theater are in WDW...we'll probably only do Soarin' if we decide to go and if we decide to hit DCA.

If Soarin was the ONLY thing you'd do at DCA, I'd say it's not worth the extra $20. Just go to DL and see the things that WDW doesn't have:
Indy
Normal Tiki Room
Haunted mansion Holiday
Pinocchio
Mr. Toad
Alice In Wonderland
IASW Holiday
Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin

Plus:
Space
Splash
PotC
BLAB
BTMRR
Which are different/same.

I wouldn't want to miss:

Tower of Terror
Monsters Inc.
Soarin' over California
Block Party

Splash Mountain
Pirates of the Caribbean
Haunted Mansion (though I personally like the non-holiday version better)
Big Thunder Mountain
Peter Pan
Fireworks

I have to agree above that if soain was the only thing you wanted to see in DCA id skip that park all together... But it might be fun for you to park hop and compare some rides and attractions that are at DL and WDW to see what park you find it is better in.

My advice is be at DL before opening, do a bunch early before it gets crowded, get a fastpass or two, then hit CA when it opens, again do a bunch of stuff before it gets busy then back to DL use the fast passes see shows and fireworks.

I would agree with everyone on their choices.. I would also add

DCA:

California Screaming

DL

Matterhorn Mountain

pirate:

At DCA I would do Soarin, the "Alladin" show and California Screamin and TOT if you like thrill rides. I believe Alladin is the best show Disney has, and if you want to do a Rock and Roll Roller Coaster, then California Screamin is real close to it. At DL I would do a few of your favorites just to compare. Don't forget to do Indianna Jones. A great ride, plus an awesome queuing line to it. Have fun! :tinker:

Matterhorn is going through a MAJOR rehab this time of year. ;)

Some of the entertainment you can see will depend on when you are going. We're going for the day on the 11-7 (my DSis :bday: ) and since it's a Tue. some things won't be going. I checked the week starting Sun, Nov. 5 and this is what is going on that week:

Alladin-perfomances on Sun, Wed, Thur, and Sat.
(We love this show-if it's playing when you are there, and you like Disney musicals, then see it. It's about 45 min. long and Broadway quality! :goodvibes )

Fantasmic-only showing Sun, Fri. and Saturday. I also like this show but being AP I honestly haven't watched it here in years (I've seen it at WDW though) and I haven't wanted to wait with the crowd. If you haven't seen it, do. It is better, IMHO, than WDW version.

Block Party Bash (Parade/show at DCA) This is a very high energy parade. I really liked it. Performs on Sunday, Mon., Tues., Fri., Sat. Dark Wed, Thurs.

The Christmas Season starts on Fri., Nov. 10. The holiday fireworks (and snow) start that day and, according to the days I checked, will "air" everyday. These are awesome, and not to be missed!

As for the rides, everyone else pretty much covered them. I love ToT, Soarin' (exactly the same as WDW), Screamin', Maliboomer, BTR (maybe closed), SM, HM, PoC, and of course, Indy.

Have a great time! :grouphug:

Thanks everyone...just a tad more help maybe!
Are you coming soon? Like during the Holidays? If so, then you have to be sure and see IASW and HM Christmas overlays! I hear there is also a light show at IASW (which I never knew about), and of course all the decorations, Christmas fireworks and snow! It's my favorite time of the year there and so magical! :tinker:
