One Cabin, or Two? Inside or View?

Okay, as an example a Category 4 stateroom for a family of five has a list price of $7,030. Two category 6 cabins (one with 2 people and one with 3) would be about $8,000. Two category 10 rooms (again 2&3) have a list price of $5,490. The cabins are basically the same except for the veranda and the cat. 4 is 4 feet longer to accommodate the extra bed.

So if you had a party of five which would you choose?

We would choose 2 Cat. 9 or Cat 8s. We like the porthole.

I was thinking hte same thing. I'd rather have 2 outside staterooms with portholes. Actually, that's what we're doing with our family of five. 2 category 9's.

We've had a Cat. 6, 8 and 10 (all on Deck 6) for our family of 4. We felt the balcony was a waste of money, as we spent almost no time on it. The category 10 wasn't bad, but we enjoyed the 8 more. The big round window let in lots of light, and the sill was deep enough for my kids to use it as a seat.

We originally booked a Cat. 10 for our Eastbound Panama Canal cruise in August because the cruise is so expensive; reconsidered, and we are now waitlisted for a Category 9 for not a lot more money. It has the same big window as the 8, but I guess will be on Deck 1 or 2.

If I were in your shoes, I would look at booking 2 Cat. 9s if you don't mind being on Decks 1 or 2. You'll have double the bathrooms and storage space.

Remember that the first 2 passengers per cabin pay adult fare, regardless of age. If you've been counting on two adult fares and three child fares, you might be better off with the Category 4.

How old are the kids?? We just cruised in a Cat 6 (verandah) with our 2 teenaged sons and for the next cruise we want a bit more room so we've booked them across the hall from us in an inside cabin, while we're still in a verandah cabin.

The reason for this is that DH and I LOVED the verandah, DSs really didn't care about it one way or the other, although younger DS did step out there a few times to look. Also, since our DSs will be 18 and 15 on our next cruise, we are comfortable with putting them in their own cabin. (We'll be keeping a close eye on them nonetheless! LOL)

So I'm going to vote for a Verandah/Inside Cabin combo.

I agree, this is what I would do.

I'm trying to decide between a Cat 5 or 6 for 3 of us and an inside cabin across the hall for my older kids (will be 19, 16, and 13) or two Cat 8 connecting cabins. I'm leaning towards the verandah/inside option.

Since I've never cruised before it's a tough call for me.

I would do the inside cabins. We were not in the room long enough to justify spending more on the balcony. I do understand that some people wouldn't said w/o out a balcony. I am just happy that I get to go. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have a cat #6 or higher, but it isn't in my budget.

Give me a broom closet and I will sleep there........as long as I am on the Magic for 7 beautiful days!!

We have cruised with inside cabins, porthole cabins and verandah and cabins...and we chose 2 outside connecting cabins for our upcoming cruise! To me, the verandah is not worth it!

We're going with the two connecting cat 10's. We got the ones with the limited-view portholes. Sometimes it's tough having a family of 5!

As some of you have pointed out, all of the options with outside (porthole) staterooms have been left off the choices in the poll. I just thought it would create too many combinations of choices to include them. So for this exercise, let’s just say no category 8 or 9 rooms are available.

The results are about what I expected. The only reason I can think of to book a category 4 stateroom is if your kids are too young to be in a room by themselves. Can anyone think of any other reason to put five people in a room?
