I have been cleaning out rooms and the toy room this week and we have a lot of stuff to get rid of. Just curious to know if anyone has sold toys and baby stuff (walker, bouncer, outdoor kangaroo climber) to Once upon a child or another resale shop? What was your experience, did they give you a decent price? We live in the country so a yard sale is really out of the question. TIA

I took some of my DD and DS toys, clothes, bouncers, etc. to Once Upon a Child and I walked out after hearing what they wanted to give me. .50 for an entire RL outfit, .75 for an entire girl Gymboree outfit:scared1:. I had walked through the aisles and saw their prices so I figured a dollar or two is what I would be getting. :sad2: They wanted to give me $10 for an entire Graco travel system with 2 bases, not just one.

We ended up donating it to goodwill and the salvation army. DH said we would be better off writing it off on our taxes than making $5 from OUaC. (it was going to be more from them than 5, but it didn't seem like much). After we donated it, I found a place called Kid to Kid. Much more reasonable prices for the stuff you're selling and even potentially buying. I don't know if all Once Upon a child are like the one I have near me, but I don't even go in there anymore. HTH

Each one is so hit or miss. I used to have one that gave me top dollar but they got a new owner & now it's pennies. The others around are bout the same, pennies.

They used to give more but now all used toys have to be lead tested.

Generally, I do a four step process. I have a one day yard sale (can you do it at someone else's house?) I advertise in the paper with others. Full price till noon, then I'll barter. At 3:00 p.m. I pack up everything & take to Once Upon a Child. They dig through it & reject 3/4. Then I let my friends dig through it. Then I donate the leftovers to Goodwill. I spend 4 days doing this & only do it every 2-3 years when I have a lot of nice stuff (I have a giant basement so I can keep stuff a long time.) I've made as much as $700.00 with this process and as little as $75.00.

I would make only a fraction of that if I had just taken it to Once Upon a Child to begin with.

So it's up to you. I always figure it by how much I'll make per hour to see if it's worth it. If I think I can have a $300.00 yard sale & make $75.00 at Once Upon a Child, it's worth it to me. If I don't, I just donate to Goodwill to get it out of my house and into someone's who needs it.
