Onboard credit

Its monies put into your onboard account. If you book a 7 night or longer cruise with DCL while onboard you will get a $200 onboard credit to spend during the cruise you booked.

If you pay the entire cruise with a Chase Disney Visa you get a $50 onboard credit toward beverage purchases.

It's money put into your account onboard that you can use to cover things that aren't included in your cruise fare. Some examples: alcoholic beverages, specialty coffees, port excursions, purchases in the gift shops, upcharges for the adult restaurants.

You can also get OBC if you book with certain travel agents.

(deleted... duplicate info as maggies_mom beat me to the punch ;) )

So its money Disney give you for taking the cruise?

It can be from Disney, but you usually only get OBC from Disney when you book your next cruise while onboard a cruise, i.e. an onboard booking. In that case, you get either $100 or $200 depending on the length of the cruise you book.

It often comes from a travel agent, if you book with one. Some travel agents give a portion of their commissions back to their clients in the form of an onboard credit. Really, what they are doing is depositing money into your onboard account for your use. Not all TAs give OBC and those that do might give different amounts. So you can shop around to find a TA that provides the most OBC.

Lastly, you can purchase your own onboard credit. What you are doing is placing money into your onboard account ahead of time for use during the cruise. Some people do this for budgeting purposes.

So its money Disney give you for taking the cruise?

Sort of... It's an incentive.

For example, Disney wants you to book another cruise while still on board, so they offer you some on board spending money for the new cruise you book.

Or maybe a travel agent wants your business, so they offer you some on board spending money for your cruise.

Oh I thought it was money you can use on the cruise your on... It said I had $750.00 onboard credit.

What said you had $750 OBC? That sounds like OBC from a travel agent. Did you book through a travel agent? If so, then yes, that's money you use on the cruise that you are on.

No booked thru Disney, Hawaii cruise..
I thought that's what I read... I'll go back and look...

I don't believe you would have gotten $750 in OBC by booking through DCL. We booked through a TA and received $300 from the TA and had $200 from DCL from booking onboard.

No it was $700 and It said Onboard credit limit...:o
I believe this is to mean if you setup your onboard account as Cash instead of giving a credit card that you have a $700 credit limit before having to put cash down. This is different from receiving onboard credit to spend.
