Onboard Asthma Treatment Available?

My kids have their inhalers but on rare occasions require a nebulizer - by any chance does anyone know if the medical center on the Magic carries one? I'd prefer not having to schlep ours along. I'm also calling DCL but I thought I'd try here too.

Good question, when you find out, let me know! I shelped my son's with us the first time. The second time I didn't bother, and wouldn't you know, he came down with croup??? Figures. Luckily it was very mild, for a change.

I called DCL - they checked their intranet medical center site and a nebulizer was NOT listed, so they suggested we bring our own or contact a local medical equipment provider to have one waiting for you (I can only imagine the premium price they charge).

We always bring our nebulizer with us. A few years ago, we went out and bought a battery operated nebulizer that is very small and easy to pack in the carry-on bag. It's come in handy during car rides and power outages. I'm glad we have it!

I have rented small handheld nebulizers for travel before. Now that I think about it, I should probably do it again! Medical supply companies will often rent the equipment.

we have recently purchased a much smaller nebulizer although it is still electric- i won't go on a trip without it....there is always that small chance of needing it- my DS5 uses an inhaler occassionally but with my luck i won't bring the nebulizer and be in a real jam!! for piece of mind i suggest to just lug it along

While they don't have a nebulizer listed - they don't need one... They have oxygen and air piped in. They use the tubing that you plug into the nebulizer - but instead use the air pressure from the system. Hope that makes sense....

Don't worry - the on board medical center can function as a mini-ICU should the need arise.

I too have a ds with Asthma and hated dragging my big old nebulizor with us, especially while traveling. I recenly bought a new smaller easy to travel neb and LOVE IT!! Omron makes it and I am soooooo happy with it. Comes in its own little bag and very easy to pack. Makes me feel better just having it.

I had asked this prior to our last cruise sice my daughter uses a nebulizer when she gets a cold and they told me that to use their facility for it would be somewhere around 100.00. No thanks LOL..I had a bigger nebulizer at home my insurance company had sent me. I called them up and told them I was traveling and needed a smaller one so they sent me out that one too, didn't cost me a penny. I would rather take the smaller one with me than pay 100 every time she needed to breath!

my mom is a doc and got a tour of the med center aboard. The doc told her that the only thing they are not equiped to do is run a full scale operation. They even have anethesia machines aboard. So i wouldn't worry, but pack yours just incase.

We just returned from feb 26 magic my neice and nephew ( 3 and 4) both have asthma problems. My sister in law did take her portable nebulizer. The kids were fine until about Tuesday and then started having problems crouping and wheezing. She was glad she brought hers a long as she really wasn't planning on it and then had started reading here on the forum and read about other children getting into problems and needing treatments.

I found the cheapest place to buy the Omron nebulizer was at a place called hmint.com. I ordered mine but it hasn't come in yet. It cannot take the steroid medicine if that's what your children take.

Wow, great insurance. Mine didn't cover anything other than the medicine that goes in it. Thankfully my son outgrew his asthma 13 years ago.
