Can anyone tell me about the on site car rental Disney has and has anyone done this before? How does this work, where do you rent the cars from etc? TIA

Alamo and National. Both are at the Car Care Center near MK. There are also locations at the Swan and Dolphin (one is at one, the other at the other).

CCC has a shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off just about wherever you need to be. Resorts, parks (though if you are/need to be at MK it'll actually be at TTC), WWofS. Call them *at least* an hour before you need to be picked up, and don't give yourself too short a time when dropping the car off because you put your name and destination on a list, and they dispatch shuttles as needed and possible.

I've only dropped off at Swolphin and just walked over to Epcot, so I don't know exactly how that works.

Anyway, just go to Alamo or National's sites and price it out. Sometimes using those locations is a great deal (their taxes/fees tend to be lower than getting it/dropping it off at the airport), and sometimes it's not (the daily rates are sometimes much higher than the daily rates at the airport). And once you find a rate you can live with, book it in a way where it can be changed/cancelled. Then keep on checking, because as the time gets closer, rates CAN go down. Not always, but it's possible, so keep on checking.

We rented from Enterprise on our December 2013 trip. We used DME for the trip from the airport to Kidani. I was picked up at our resort by Enterprise (yes they do pick you up, even at Disney!). The rental location was B Hotel (Royal Plaza back then). It worked really great. On the day I returned the car I dropped it off at B and one of the Enterprise guys dropped me off at the Boardwalk. A quick trip to the International Gateway entrance and I met back up with the family. Enterprise is recommended.

I used the Disney Car Care Center (Alamo rental) in 2012 and LOVED them. I was in and out for both the pick up and drop off in less than 10 minutes. I took a taxi to get there as it was early in the morning, but they will pick you up if requested. When I dropped off the car, they took me to the Grand Floridian so I could catch the monorail to MK.

I plan to rent from them again this May. Highly, highly recommended!

Thank you HiHoWeGo and SimplyGoofy. Did you find the rental rates reasonable? The prices I got for a one day rental in May were in the $70-$75 range, which seems extreme.

I know you can rent cars at the double tree near downtown disney too and the magic kingdom rental spot is definitely at the magic kingdom entrance. Hope this helps.

Had to have some car repair on our last trip and rented from Alamo at the CCC to get to the parks and local attractions outside the World for two days... Didn't even have a reservation, but they still accommodated my needs very quickly!

You are, after all, a captive audience...

We have used the car care center for rentals as well as Swan & Dolphin and numerous sites at DTD hotels. All will dispatch a shuttle to pick-up/drop-off at resorts. I even asked to be picked up at DTD once. When you are searching on rental sites, try putting "Lake Buena Vista, FL" if you do not know the code of the rental location. Be sure to check the "Transportation" Board on this site as they usually share some codes you may be able to use.

I've booked a rental car for when we leave, pick up is from Alamo at Swan & Dolphin, the rate seemed quite reasonable to me.

I love picking up at Alamo at the Dolphin. We headed to Epcot for the morning and just walked over to the Dolphin. There were no other customers there at the time so it was quick and easy. We did the same in reverse except just handed the keys to someone outside the hotel and we headed into Epcot again.

The rates were real reasonable too.

Good info...was thinking about this for May as we are planning a midweek visit to universal with 2 weekend at Disney.
